2014 Maruti Suzuki Ciaz Sedan Serial Production Begins in India

Maruti Suzuki recently discontinued the SX4 sedan with production of the C-Segment sedan grinding to a halt at the automaker’s Manesar factory. The Ciaz sedan, first showcased at the 2014 Indian Auto Expo in concept form, will replace the SX4 sedan in India. Serial production of the Ciaz sedan has already commenced at Maruti Suzuki’s Manesar factory, with the car lined up for dispatch in the next couple of weeks. Maruti Suzuki will launch the Ciaz sedan next month.

The Ciaz sedan will also be sold in the Chinese car market, albeit under the Alivio brand name. In India, Maruti Suzuki will equip the Ciaz will two engine options, a 1.4 liter K-Series petrol motor (94 Bhp-130 Nm) borrowed from the Ertiga and a 1.3 liter Fiat Multijet turbo diesel engine (89 Bhp-200 Nm) carried over from the outgoing SX4. Notably, the 1.3 liter, variable geometry turbocharger equipped turbo diesel engine is also offered on the Ertiga, with whom the Ciaz shares its platform.

The Ciaz will borrow dashboard bits and features from the likes of the Swift and the Ertiga, in a major parts sharing exercise. However, fit and finish levels on the Ciaz will be a cut above those on the Swift and the Ertiga. The Ciaz will bring abroad a slew of new features and creature comforts, hitherto unseen on a Maruti Suzuki car priced below the 10 lakh rupee mark. The car also promises to be one of the most spacious C-Segment sedans, with a 4,545 mm length and a 2,650 mm wheelbase.

Here’s a round up of the key features on the Ciaz sedan,

  • Projector headlamps
  • 16 inch alloy wheels
  • Fog lamps
  • Power assisted wing mirrors
  • Dual tone dashboard
  • Beige interiors with wood inserts
  • Front and rear power windows
  • Driver arm rest
  • Tilt steering
  • Steering mounted audio controls
  • Automatic climate control
  • Push button start and keyless entry
  • Height adjustable driver seat
  • Dead pedal
  • Rear AC vents
  • Rear Defogger
  • Factory fitted music system with 6 speakers, USB, Bluetooth and AUX
  • 5 Inch TFT screen with reverse parking display
  • Reverse parking sensors
  • ABS + EBD
  • Twin Airbags

Expect the prices of the Ciaz sedan to mirror those of the outgoing SX4 as the former needs a very competitive price tag to take on formidable rivals such as the Honda City and the Hyundai Verna sedans, which together account for over 10,000 units in monthly sales. Maruti Suzuki is yet to taste success in the C-Segment sedan space and the Ciaz will be the Indian automaker’s latest stab at glory in the hotly competitive sedan market.
