The India-bound 2016 Skoda Superb luxury saloon will be unveiled tomorrow, in the brand’s home market of the Czech Republic, with the global unveil to follow at the 2015 Geneva Motor Show. The MQB platform based car will be launched here next year. In the run up to the 2016 Superb’s global debut, Skoda has unleashed a slew of teaser images of the car. The latest crop of teasers are four strong, and depict the new car in various angles.
The 2016 Superb that has hopped on to the MQB platform is longer and larger than the version it replaces. However, its length has been capped to a figure under 5 meters to ensure maneuverability. The car’s design derives from the Vision C concept and from the looks of the revealed sketches and teasers, much of the concept’s sharp design cues and creases have been retained on the production model.
The luxury saloon’s turbocharged petrol and turbo diesel engines have been retained, with tweaks to performance and fuel efficiency. The 3.5 liter, naturally aspirated V6 petrol motor goes out of the window. Manual and automatic transmissions will be offered. While a front wheel drive layout will be standard on the 2016 Superb, all-wheel drive options will be served up in Europe, where cold and icy conditions necessitate such a feature.
As far as the Indian car market is concerned, the 2016 Superb is expected to be powered by the 1.8 liter TSI and 2.0 liter TDI turbocharged petrol and diesel engines. Transmission options will include 6 speed manuals on the petrol and diesel variants, which will also get 7 speed and 6 speed twin clutch DSG automatic transmissions on higher trims. The car’s interiors were recently revealed to indicate luxury with a classy undertone.
As Skoda’s flagship vehicle, the new Superb is expected to be decked up with a wide range of features and creature comforts. One of the segment leaders in India, the Czech automaker will be hoping that the new Superb does an Octavia in terms of demand. All said, everything you need to know about the new car is less than 24 hours away from an official reveal. Keep an eye on this space.
