Bad idea. This engine was discontinued ages back. Spares will be hard to find. A nine year old car will anyway have maintenance issues. Especially a diesel. Never buy a diesel that is more than 5 years old.

Instead of the base model of the sedan, go for the LS model of the UVA. You will get more features for a wholesome driving experience. And still save money as compared to the base model of the sedan or the i20. In fact, when you are open to spending a lakh extra, go the whole hog and get the LT, complete with the safety kit.

The most important tip for you would be to read the manual of your car. Everything will be mentioned there. From my side, keep to the service schedule religiously, get the throttle body and the injectors cleaned as prescribed, maintain proper tire pressure. and get the radiator flushed in case it has not been flushed for the past 12 months or so.
