Personally I travel in bumper to bumper traffic on a daily basis. I use only the clutch for momentum while on a red light my car is in neutral with the hand brake applied. If traffic is moving real slow, I let the vehicle drift in first gear without touching any pedals, but that will need some practice if you are not used to it. Trying to stick to…[Read more]

clutch is basically a switch, which just has on and off position, in clutch nomenclature, fully pressed (dis engaged) or fully depressed (engaged), as its manual transmission you can operate in between too, but that’s folly …. always in bumper to bumper traffic, keep ur cool, … while take off, fully press clutch pedal, shift to 1st, and…[Read more]

Today I will be travelling to Lucknow via Taj expressway so is it wise to get the tyres filled with nitrogen or normal air pressure is fine??????I read many forums where people are saying it's a concrete road so tyres tend to get heated more and to avoid that one should fill nitrogen...

Yes, considering your journey, today is a good day for filling up Nitrogen but trust me, in general it is a sheer waste of money. Tire related accident / breakdown is not just limited to Nitrogen v/s normal air but also depends upon other factors like side walls, tread depth / tire age, sudden puncture due to sharp objects, etc. Although I am from…[Read more]

I’ve not really been much of a “nitrogen” fan as anyway normal air is 78% nitrogen! But in extreme heat (and considering the 44 degree heat we’ve been having in Delhi) nitrogen tends to expand less than normal air and stays cooler – hence pressure would stay stable. If you want, go ahead and fill it. No harm.

Hi, the Yamuna Eway is a 165 kms stretch with a 100kmph limit. If you adhere to the limit, there should really not be a problem. Also note that nitrogen is more of hype than use in our cars and conditions. Drive Safe. Regards.

Nitrogen is of very little benefit in our normal usage conditions. Even if you’re doing a high speed run on the E-way.
I would recommend against going in for a change right before a journey. If you wanted to switch to nitrogen, you ideally should’ve done it a few days before the drive and driven around in town with it. The rule I prefer to follow…[Read more]

In fact, fuel economy stats will be more of less same in both the cars. If it is just between Magna CRDi and VDi then my choice would be the Magna CRDi for sure. However, if you increase the budget then I would consider ZDi over Sportz CRDi – and – Asta CRDi over ZDi. Yes, the Swift is costly and we have witnessed massive price increments in last…[Read more]

Between the Swift VDI and i20 Magna CRDi, I would lean toward the i20 here, because of the extra space you get and a couple of more features. Plus, the 90hp diesel engine and six-speed manual in the i20 make it a much nice car on long trips – out on the highway. It has a downside of more frequent gearshifts needed in the city, because of turbo…[Read more]

Here is my take, skip both and take the Ritz Zdi in that budget. It is more practical, gets space about which one can’t complain, gets ABS and airbags, (Vdi and Magna will miss on airbags which should really not be skipped), gets alloys which both your options don’t have and is a top end variant which will in general have better features than mid…[Read more]

Mahindra Xylo is equally (or perhaps – more) spacious with equally good seating comforts but it’s the Innova, which is the best selling car between 10L and 15L price range for the right reasons – fantastic engine (in fact, in both the cars – if you consider the mHawk) with immense power, superb balance of ride + handling (from MUV standards),…[Read more]

Ride quality and fit and finish, the Innova is much better than the Xylo. In terms of seating space, the Xylo is better. It also has a better engine now with the mHawk engine being used across Xylo variants. Plus, when it comes to value for money the Xylo has an edge – because the Innova is nearly Rs 2 lakh more variant for variant!

Freelander 2 HSE? If you knock off depreciation at 10% per year it should be worth about Rs. 32 lakh or so.

No new information has emerged on the XA Alpha right now. We should be hearing more about it in the next few months though, and since it’s an SUV based on the Swift platform, it will likely be priced in Ford EcoSport and Renault Duster territory.

It’s called Honda 3D engine oil, but I don’t think it’s available in the open market yet. The presentation Honda showed us, showed it had better viscosity than a 5W-30 oil.
