With the traffic the way it is right now in the most cities, everyone is looking to shift to an automatic transmission equipped car. Considering the high demand for compact SUVs, we bring you a list of automatic compact SUVs you can buy in India.
This one caused a major stir in the sub-4 meter SUV segment and is actually the one that got many car companies’ attention. It’s good to drive, well priced and offers a lot of engine options. The Ecosport is the only car in this list that comes in petrol-automatic guise. Powering it is a 1.5 liter Ti-VCT petrol motor, mated to a 6 speed DCT (first-in-segment). It puts out 110 Bhp and 140 Nm. With its compact size, good driving dynamics and high ground clearance, the Ecosport offers everything an urban SUV buyer is looking for.
Pricing (ex showroom Delhi): Rs 9.61 lakhs
Inspired by a battle tank, the TUV300 is being marketed as the tough SUV. The styling certainly compliments the tagline with the high front end and the boxy shape. Though Mahindra’s 2nd attempt at a compact SUV, the TUV300 is all-new. Powering the TUV is a 1.5 liter, triple cylinder diesel unit with a twin scroll turbocharger. Outputs are rated at 81 Bhp-230 Nm, while mated to the 5 speed AMT. The advantage of the TUV is the fact that it has 2 side-facing jump seats at the back, which could be used for short distances.
Pricing (ex showroom Delhi): T6+ AMT: 9.02 lakhs & T8 AMT: 9.64 lakhs
Say hello to the latest car joining this list. This is the replacement for the Quanto. So, how is it different from the TUV300? This one’s positioned slightly above the TUV in terms of pricing. The same 1.5 liter diesel unit is on offer, but this one is retuned to make 100 Bhp-240 Nm. The gearbox, however is the same 5 speed AMT. On the features front, you have a touch screen stereo that’s an improvement over what’s on offer in the TUV. You get LED DRLs to make it look more aggressive.
Pricing (ex showroom Delhi): N6 AMT: 9 lakhs (Surprising that this one starts below the TUV300) & N8 AMT: 9.76 lakhs
A much loved SUV, the Renault Duster recently got upgraded. The vehicle’s presence and muscular looks appeal to most customers. Nothing comes close to the Duster in terms of suspension set-up and ride quality. With the facelift comes a 6 speed AMT option. Available in 2 trims, the AMT version is powered from the 1.5 liter K9K turbo diesel unit in the 110 PS (108 Bhp) state of tune. It’ll only be front wheel driven though.
Pricing(ex showroom Delhi): RxL: 11.66 lakhs & RxZ: 12.86 lakhs
This is the SUV that set the sales charts on fire since its launch. The Creta offers everything a compact SUV buyer’s looking for – edgy styling, premium interiors and the bells and whistles Hyundais generally offer. The only downside to this vehicle would be its steep pricing. However, that isn’t stopping people from queuing outside dealerships to bring home one. Available only in the diesel automatic form currently, the Creta will soon get a petrol automatic variant.
Pricing (Ex-showroom Delhi): 1.6 CRDi SX+ AT: 14.38 lakhs & 1.6 petrol SX+ AT: 12.40 lakhs (expected pricing)
