Audi Q3 spotted testing in Mumbai

The Audi Q3 has been spotted testing in Mumbai. A couple of weeks back, CarToq had reported that Audi will be launching the Q3 in India to take on the BMW X1. The test mule spotted was a grey-colored one and could be the 2.0 TDI variant of the yet-to-be launched Q3.

The Q3 seems like a downsized Q5. In fact, the Q3 is just 20 cm shorter and 7 cm narrower when compared to the present Q5. The Q3 measures 4.4 m in length, 1.8 m in width and 1.6 m in height. The Q3 has a sporty urban stance with its striking headlights and flat-set rear window. Audi has minimized the weight of the Q3 to less than 1,500 kg by using aluminium for the engine hood and wraparound tailgate.

The Audi Q3 will be loaded with lot of gizmos such as an on-board computer with fuel efficiency program, an ambient lighting package with LEDs, sports seats, storage package, electrically adjustable and heated seats, start-stop technology, keyless entry, two-zone AC, tinted rear windows, and 3-spoke leather wrapped steering wheel.

Audi will likely introduce the Q3 with a 2.0 litre TFSI petrol engine as the base version to keep entry prices low and a 2.0 TDI diesel engine. The 2.0 TFSI petrol motor produces 170 bhp of maximum power and is mated to a 6-speed transmission and the 2.0 TDI diesel motor makes 211 bhp and is mated to a 7-speed S-tronic transmission.

Audi’s Q3 engines will be assisted with direct fuel injection technology, turbo, energy recovery system and start-stop system to save fuel. The Q3 will likely come with 4 driving modes, comfort, auto, dynamic and efficiency. Audi will be launching the Q3 with four wheel drive and this will make the Q3 gain an advantage over its chief rival, the BMW X1 which is only available as a rear wheel drive vehicle.

Audi, like its German rivals, BMW and Mercedes-Benz is aiming to grab the No.1 spot in India’s booming luxury car market, especially in the entry-level premium segment. BMW X1 has seen successful sales and this could encourage Audi to launch the Q3. Further, in the coming years, the German trio (Audi, Mercedes and BMW) will likely launch their baby luxury sedans such as the Audi A3, BMW 1-series, Mercedes A-Class and Mercedes B-Class. These premium hatches and sedans could be priced in the Rs. 18-25 lakh price range.
