Jaguar, the British marquee has always had a thing for bringing cars that have been a notch above the German rivals in terms of positioning. As of now, the luxury and sports car maker does not have an entry level luxury car offering. However, this status won’t be the story for too long. Jaguar has confirmed that it is working on an entry level luxury sedan that will lock horns with the likes of the BMW 3-Series, Mercedes Benz C-Class and the Audi A4. Jaguar is looking at adding big sales volumes with the new entry-level luxury sedan, dubbed the XS.

Jaguar will launch the car later this year. Instead of taking the concept route first, the Jaguar XS sedan will arrive straight in production guise, later this year. Jaguar’s design head, Mr. Ian Cullum has stated that the sedan will break cover later this year globally, before being launched in markets across the world during 2015. The Paris Motor Show later this year in October, is expected to play host to the baby Jaguar sedan. The XS will sit below the XF luxury sedan and will be the new entry level Jaguar car.

Mr Callum has also stated that the car will not be a downsized version of the XF sedan that is currently the entry level sedan of the company and  that rivals the likes of Mercedes Benz E-Class, BMW 5-Series and the Audi A6. While the baby Jaguar sedan will bear similarities to the XF sedan and will carry a familiar look, it will be based on an all new iQ aluminium platform that was launched first with the C-X17 crossover concept. Incidentally, the C-X17 crossover concept was recently showcased at the Auto Expo 2014.

The new Jaguar XS sedan will be powered by turbo petrol and turbo diesel engines in four cylinder configurations. Jaguar is also said to be considering high performance variants, similar to the XFR-S, for the XS entry level sedan. The high performance variants will take on the BMW M and Mercedes Benz AMG cars. India is turning out to be a major car market for Jaguar and Land Rover. Owned by Tata Motors, these companies are not shying away from launching their latest products in India. Therefore, the Jaguar XS sedan and the production version of the C-X17 crossover are highly likely to be launched in India.
