The Indian arm of German luxury carmaker BMW will lift the wraps off its new mid-luxury 5 Series Sedan by June 2007. The new 5 Series Sdan is expected to be in the price range of Rs 37 lakh to Rs 42 lakh.

The cars from BMW India’s Chennai facility are expected to take the company’s good show in the country even further. The carmaker had sold more than 500 cars in the first two months of its operations here. Immediate rival Diamler has sold 2,121 units in the last fiscal.

BMW India also plans to launch its Sport Utility Vehicles (SUVs) X3 and X5 through the import route later this year. The company has hiked its sales target to 1,200 units from the earlier 1,000 units for the current calendar.

Going by the huge response to BMW products in India, a company official said that the 5 Series is expected to propel sales to higher levels. The BMW SUVs, which are currently undergoing homologation process at the Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI) in the Maharashtra city of Pune would be launched in next few months.

The company is yet to determine the prices of its forthcoming SUVs. With more models set to be rolled out, the company is also expanding its sales network. Plans are to appoint 12 dealers across the country. BMW will also open its international purchasing office in India to out-source its worldwide ancillaries requirement, said a report.
