Chevrolet Trailblazer

In October 2015, General Motors India’s biggest launch of this year will arrive, both literally and figuratively. The most massive SUV in its class, the Chevrolet Trailblazer will be pitted at the likes of the Toyota Fortuner and the Mitsubishi Pajero Sport.

What’s the big deal about the Trailblazer?

Chevrolet TrailBlazer SUV Seating

For starters, the Trailblazer will one of be the largest, ladder frame 7 seat luxury SUVs to be sold in India, measuring 4,878 mm in length, 1,902 mm in width and 2,845 mm in wheelbase. It will also be one of the most powerful diesel SUVs in its class, with its 2.8 liter-4 cylinder Duramax diesel engine putting out 200 Bhp-500 Nm. 6 speed manual and automatic gearbox options will be offered, with rear and four wheel drive layouts.

Where will it be positioned?

General Motors is not CKD assembling the Trailblazer, at least initially. The SUV will arrive as a completely built unit (CBU) from Thailand. This means that it could be priced below the Captiva, which is also a CBU import from Thailand. We’re saying this as the Trailblazer is cheaper than the Captiva in the Thai market.

A similar level of pricing would mean that the new SUV would sit at a price figure close to the 20 lakh rupee mark. At that price, the Trailblazer will spell big value. Any higher, and General Motors India would have squandered yet another opportunity to seize the market by its horns.

Ford Endeavour

Ford Endeavour

The Ford Endeavour will be showcased to Indian SUV buyers by the end of this year, with the official launch to happen early next year. The new Endeavour will replace the older generation model, which has been around in India for over a decade now.

What’s the big deal about the new Ford Endeavour?

The new Pajero Sport is an all-new model, based on the fifth generation Triton pick up truck. The interiors of the SUV are all new and so is the exterior styling. Mitsubishi has taken a bold approach with the styling of the new Pajero Sport. While the front end will pass muster, the rear end is completely overstyled and most will find it hard to digest. The Pajero Sport gets a big boost in terms of extra safety equipment and creature comforts.

This somewhat salvages the styling botch up at the rear. The 2.4 liter turbo diesel engine, though downsized makes more power and torque (180 Bhp-430 Nm). An 8 speed automatic gearbox, which is a best in class feature will be offered as an option, while a 6 speed manual gearbox will be standard fare. An off road mode for the 4 wheel drive system and an electric parking brake are two other new features.
