Chevrolet Essentia caught testing in India

There has no major launch from the American giant in India since a very long time. GM showcased the sedan based on the Chevrolet Beat as a concept model at Auto Expo 2016. Named as Essentia, the compact sedan will be launched some time next year and for the first time ever, the car has been caught testing in Pune. Let’s know more about the car.

What is it?

The Essentia is the first ever compact sedan from GM and the car is specially developed for the Indian market. The compact sedan is based on the Beat hatchback, which is one of best sellers of Chevrolet brand in India. The car caught on lens resembles the concept model showcased at the Auto Expo.

The Essentia has been designed very nicely and the boot has been designed to be the part of the hatchback. The body creases of the car are also similar to the one seen on the concept car.

The interiors of the spied car could not been seen but the concept model received beige leather upholstery and we may see the colour theme in the production version too, except the leather part.

The prototype model also had a nice looking floating type instrument cluster with integrated digital speedometer and tachometer. The infotainment system consists of a nice looking touch-sensitive music system in the centre console.

Engine

The Chevrolet Essentia will be powered by a 936cc, 3-cylinder diesel engine and 1.2-litre, 4-cylinder petrol engine, the same ones that powers the Beat. The engines will get 5-speed transmission as standard.

Chevrolet will enter the segment a bit too late. Manufacturers like Maruti and Hyundai are already well settled in the segment while new entrants like Ford and Volkswagen are fighting it out with the biggies with their own products. The Essentia will have to face stiff competition in the segment and unless Chevrolet offers something radical to the market, it will be little difficult of the company to make it a success.
