Chevrolet will launch their Aveo U-Va replacement; the Sail U-Va on October 25, 2012. When launched the Sail will compete with vehicles like the Toyota Etios Liva, Ford Figo, Maruti Suzuki Ritz, Maruti Suzuki Swift, Hyundai i20 etc.
The Chevrolet Sail hatchback will replace the old and dated U-Va hatchback which has been around for a long time. The U-Va has been long due for a replacement which makes the Sail hatchback an interesting launch.
First let’s take a look at the new information about the Sail. The Sail is 3946 mm in length, 1690 mm in width, 1503 mm in height and has a wheelbase of 2465 mm. Both the petrol and diesel variants of the Sail have good ground clearance. The petrol Sail has a ground clearance of 174 mm and weighs 1,065 kgs. It has a It has a 42-litre fuel tank, turning circle of 10.3-metres, has 236 mm discs and shrouds 175/70/14 tyres. The diesel Sail sits 168 mm above the ground and weighs 1,174 kgs and has 240 mm discs for the brakes. It has a fuel tank capacity of 40-litres of the diesel and petrol versions are different.
The Sail will sport features like fog lamps, electrically adjustable side view mirrors, 14-inch alloy wheels, power windows, central locking, dual SRS airbags and ABS. It has also been tweaked to suit Indian conditions better and Chevrolet has increased its ground clearance, upgraded the AC compressor for better cooling, re-shaped the rear seat along with an arm rest and tuned the suspension for bad roads.

The Sail will be available in both petrol and diesel engine options. The petrol will be powered by a 1.2-litre DOHC motor that makes 85 bhp of power and 113 Nm of torque. The ARAI certified mileage of the petrol Sail is 18.2 kmpl. The diesel Sail will be powered by a 1.3-litre motor that makes 77 bhp of power and 205 Nm of torque. This motor is a Multijet which comes with a new turbocharger giving the U-Va a 0-100 kmph time of 15.2 seconds. It has an ARAI certified mileage of 22.1 kmpl. The Sail U-Va will start a new chapter for General Motors in India. If the Sail becomes successful then it will join the Chevrolet Cruze and Chevrolet Beat which are the most successful GM models in India.
