Apart from new car launches the coming year will bring with it face-lifted models of several cars. Face-lifts have always been a good way for car manufacturers to attract buyers and pro-long the life of cars with ageing designs.
Here we take a look at 4 small cars that are expected to be seen in their face-lifted avatars in 2013, take a look!
Let’s start with the car manufacturer which loves facelifts and almost always gets a lot of buyers lining up for these slightly tweaked vehicles: Maruti Suzuki. We expect two facelifts from Maruti in 2013 as of now; the Alto K10 and the Wagon-R.
Face-lifted Maruti Suzuki Alto K10
Post the success of the recently launched Alto800, Maruti Suzuki is all set to launch a face-lifted Alto K10. The present Alto K10 sports a 1,000 cc motor that makes 67 bhp of power at 6,200 rpm and 90 Nm of torque at 3,500 rpm. Also read: Maruti Alto 800 vs. Alto K10
The New Alto K10 will be more than just a face-lift as Maruti Suzuki is developing a 1,000 cc version of the Alto 800’s motor. This motor will be used on the new K10 which will be like a more powerful version of the present K10’s 1.0 litre motor. We expect Maruti to offer features like airbags, ABS, new upholstery on the face-lifted Alto K10. The K10 will get cosmetic upgrades however there are images of the Alto k10 face-lift yet. It may borrow design cues from the Alto 800 and we can only hope that the borrowing is kept to a bare minimum.
Face-lifted Maruti Suzuki Wagon R
Maruti Suzuki premiered the 2013 Wagon-R in Japan and will likely bring this refreshed Wagon R to India in 2013. It looks much different from the present day Wagon-R and looks a lot sportier as well.
What makes it boldy different are the large swept back headlamps, a new rectangular grill with three thick chrome strips and large bumpers with an air dam upfront. Even at the rear it gets new tail lamps but their design is reminiscent of the present models tail lamps. The rear bumper design is also new and helps break the monotony of the regular tall boy design.
Changes on the inside include a new dual tone dashboard along with a dash mounted steering wheel and gear lever. Also read: New Maruti Suzuki Wagon R premieres in Japan, may come to India!
With a length of 3.39 metres it is shorter than the present model but the wheelbase remains unaltered at 2.4 metres. Hence space is actually more inside the cabin. Internationally this new Wagon-R sports a 660 cc 3-cylinder, petrol motor that makes 52 bhp for the normally aspirated engine and 64 bhp for the turbocharged version. In India we expect Maruti to plonk in the same K series engine that does duty in the present Wagon R.
Face-lifted Chevrolet Beat
The popular Chevrolet Beat small car is going to get a mild dose of Botox. The refreshed Beat will sport a new front grille and bumper. It will also likely get larger 15 inch alloy wheels to enhance its visual appeal along with the new Chevrolet trademark bow-tie grille and front bumpers. It will also sport slightly modified headlamps and tail lamps. The new Beat may also get a rear spoiler with integrated LED brake lights, Bluetooth connectivity and new plastics. It is possible that the Beat will get an optional cruise control but this will likely be on select variants and will reflect in the price as well.
The face lifted Beat may cost slightly more than the present model because of all the new features, it will sport. At present, the Beat petrol is priced in the range of Rs. 3.83 lakh – Rs. 4.73 lakh while the Beat diesel is priced in the range of Rs. 4.29 lakh – Rs. 5.45 lakh. New Face-lifted Fiat Punto
Fiat will likely launch the face-lifted Punto premium hatchback in India soon. The face lifted Punto will get a new bumper design, new front grille and fog lamp housing. At the rear too it will get a new bumper design with integrated reflectors and clear lens tail lamps.
It looks sportier than the present model which has a more elegant design. However, since this is a premium hatch and you can get a 90hp Punto, making it look sporty may actually be a wise move on Fiat’s part. Interiors will get new fabrics with mild yet evident changes to the dashboard as well. The new Punto will likely get larger alloy wheels and new body colour options as well.
