This is a difficult choice – because the ideal first car is always a Maruti – but the Eon is very tempting! I would go for the Eon – because it is more modern outside and inside, better features overall etc. Eon and Alto K10 are both good first cars, so to a large extent it is about which one you like instinctively. Have you driven both cars? Do…[Read more]
as babychen suggested test drive both cars before deciding. but i would suggest go for the alto k10. the k10 engine is a masterpiece plus the alto is the most rugged car u can buy. it will never go wrong and is a real pleasure to drive. the engine in the eon is not as refined as the k10 and the gear lever shakes while driving. as a first/small…[Read more]
yes I have test driven both. EON the riding comfort is less, engine not that powerful, bit noisy in cabin, bit of shake in gear.. pros are looks, interior, space & freebies…K10 has peppier engine, better ride, old looks, bit lesser height (I am 6 foot tall). Bit concerned about Hyundai maintenance, resale value, unproven new model etc.
Or is it safer to go for a second hand alto lxi and once the driving skills improve, look for a new one? (offers & price may vary then!) Also nano diesel may be on roads by then?
Maruti Suzuki Alto has some setbacks. The legs feel the pressure in the car as there is less legroom and there are no map pockets on the door side. Overall space is less and the AC takes too much of time to cool the ambience. http://goo.gl/6QeNM The gear box also is also a bit too noisy. However, there are more pros then cons which make Alto a…[Read more]
driving skills dont matter much, but if you want to buy a used car to be safe – and your taste in cars may also change when u have one – the alto is a good used car. Dont wait for the Nano diesel, as in the Nano petrol, the car may take a lot of time to improve. If you want to buy new, then as K10 has a space problem, you are left with Eon
Switch to Alto K10 for better performance. And try not to go for a second hand car.

Cleared a lot of my doubts. Thanks.
This seems to be a very biased article, where is the Chevrolet Beat, why is it not in this list when it clearly costs below 6 lakhs. It’s like you’ll have been paid to keep competition out.
Similarly Indica Vista is mising from the list. The features with comfort and safety that car provides is amazing and in this budget you can get a decent diesel option as well.
Even the SPARK is missing out , which i think is a car at a reasonable price and also provides a lot features and other facilities to the owners .
and what about honda brio and jazz!!………….it is a biased article indeed…
beat,brio,vista,spark,all missing from d list…
Guys this is based on sales and dependability, so cars like the Beat, Vista, Spark and Brio wren’t included
The cars in this list are the best selling and are easy to maintain.
many others left, VW POLO. Nissan Micra, Toyota Etios LIVA ??
Prasanna, Cervo is not coming, Maruti told us so. There is a new small car they are going to introduce, but its not the Cervo.
Spark is due for an update – but mainly a change in the engine and power train, not a cosmetic makeover.
As informed by Mathew, The cervo shall not be coming for now…I guess the spark is very unlikely to get any cosmetic upgrade though the BEAT might become cheaper and replace the spark altogether as the spark is not in confirmation with current Chevrolet design philosophy ….The ALTO will probably not be given any more updates and will be phased…[Read more]
The Spark should get a face lift as it is the only model in Chevrolet’s line up without the bow tie grille, so it will either get a face lift or be replaced (Just guessing). The Alto K10 is not getting any face lift in the near future.
