Cant comment on the rear AC vents but you sure can upgrade the audio system by putting in better speakers. As far as the engine mods go, remember that your car is powered by a paltry 1.5 liter engine which is already dishing 105bhp. Which means there is not a lot which can be done here. But you can have the ECU remapped to provide better…[Read more]
You could fit in rear AC vents from the E4 model, but will involve expensive plastic replacements (the entire center console housing the gear lever will need to be replaced with the E4′s console).
Thanks Shreyas..there is a chip by Chip express which increases bhp to 126, fyi http://www.chipexpress.com/products/3489/
@Roshun I have asked Renault guys…they say…its not possible to put E4 on E2.
And how to get ECU remapped?
These plug-in devices like Chipexpress are exactly the things I am wary of. They basically fool the ECU into making more power by boosting the inputs coming from the various sensors. This potentially puts extra strain on both the multiple sensors involved and on the engine itself. Which is why I suggest you go in for a complete remap. Do not…[Read more]
These performance chips work by fooling the ECU into thinking that the engine is running lean and too cold. This forces the ECU to pump in more diesel for a particular rpm, and this gives you more power and more torque at lower rpms. The problem is, your emissions go for a toss. Fuel efficiency – sometimes increases, sometimes decreases (because…[Read more]
Oh, here’s Pete’s FB page, just in case: https://www.facebook.com/petesautomotive
Thank you Shreyans and Roshun
. I would wait for 1 year more and go for a complete remap if available. Hey btw..I test drove new Fluence E4D…its cool
no turbo lag and very linear power.
Precisely. Renault has given the ECU maps a mild update to boost low end responsiveness, that it. Both the guys I mentioned can do the same for you. And you dont really need to run in the car to go in for a mild remap. In fact, it is better to do so with a new engine as the moving parts will get run-in according to the new configurations. Here is…[Read more]
@Shreyans..Actually Renault did not tune its engine from E2 to E4D, it has replaced many things..its kindaa new engine altogether..http://www.motorbeam.com/cars/renault-fluence/2012-renault-fluence-e4d-test-drive-review/
True that and point noted! Low inertia turbo and a simplified air intake are actually simple engine upgrades, no rocket science, but hey, as long as they are getting the job done, no one is complaining. I’v done some study and have found that such hardware updates are actually more convenient for car manufacturers over ECU remaps as it saves them…[Read more]
Then there is this question of servicing and maintenance. Car makers need to assume that the customer will not always be particular with servicing. And the cost of the service itself needs to be kept in check. A remapped car needs service intervals to be followed religiously. And use of synthetic oils is usually recommended. Think of this as a…[Read more]
@Shreyans..Awesome info sir!!..Thank you so much. I have sent an FB message to pete guys ans Kirrus. Waiting for their replies. As far as I know they dont have any chips for Renault Fluence yet. Since you are suggesting ECU Remap is the best way to get low end torque. How about hardware changes? how much do they cost? Can it be done in…[Read more]
Got a reply from Kirrus I have tuned two of the older first lauch fluence. Tuning is no issue on the 1.5dci motors and the lag problem will be fixed with your new engine map.
Cost is 28000 and time taken is usually 2-3 hours european time.
Please call if you have more doubts.
What’s your daily driving distance? The Renault Fluence E4 diesel, is easily better value for money (because it’s slightly cheaper to buy) than the Superb 1.8TSI Ambition. That said, the Superb Ambition is much more powerful at 160 bhp / 250 Nm turbo-petrol with a nice six-speed manual transmission. It has great flexibility of space, and rear-seat…[Read more]
Thank for the Advice Roshun. My driving distance can be gauged from the fact that my Honda City has run 30k Kms over a span of 3 years, which is not much. The Fluence, though belonging to a lower segment, is a car that stands out from the crowd due to its French curvaceous looks. But then The Skoda Superb is a proven car, and is also very…[Read more]
Sarthak, the Fluence I think is one of the classiest looking cars in India. But you wont like its power characteristics, considering that you had a reasonably sporty petrol so far with you. It would pain me, if I were in your position, to let go of the Fluence but I think you may have to do that, as the Superb is what you would feel comfortable with.
Babychen, if I say that majority of times I will be chauffeur-driven, then is the Fluence a good choice? I have somehow fallen in for the French looks of the Fluence.
The Fluence diesel is a very good option for you Sarthak, more so as you like its design and appearance. But the Superb is much more powerful and comfortable. If you are going to be Chauffeur driven then I suggest you opt for the Superb.
Sarthak, I can see how tempted you are by the Fluence. Have you taken a test ride in it and checked out the backseat’s legroom? Really tall people may not like it. That, you have to find out for yourself. If you are in the rear seat most of the time, then the lower power of the Fluence may not matter to you – so don’t let go of it! Superb is…[Read more]
I’ll do the test drive and ride in both the cars first I think. And yes, its the distinctiveness of the Fluence that made me think of it so hard. Will get back here soon after the ride.
What if I take the Laura Diesel into consideration? Fluence or Laura?
The Laura doesn’t have as much rear seat comfort as either the Fluence or the Superb. Between the Laura and Fluence, considering you’re looking at looks and space primarily, the Fluence is better.
Sarthak, you know Laura has been around a while. In terms of uniqueness, it is the opposite of the Fluence. Self drive, I would still stick to Superb but chauffeur – ah, now thats a reason to get a Fluence!!
I heard the Altis is also very good in terms of rear bench comfort.. Its getting too confusing now!!
Sarthak, you are trying to choose between the heart and the head
Altis of course is very comfortable in the back seat. But are you wiling to let go of the unique looks of the Fluence? Actually I think the only way you can decide is by spending some time in the back seat of all 3 cars. Chances are, you will like one of them instinctively. And…[Read more]
