HONDA CR-V RECALL

Honda recalls CR-Vs in India

1 July, 2007

Honda seems to have hit a rocky patch on Indian terrain. The company’s Indian subsidiary Honda Siel, known for its reliability, is now being forced to recall as many as 4459 CR-Vs.

Honda CR-V recall in India

This is not the first time Honda has recalled its CR-Vs. Earlier, the Honda CR-Vs manufactured between 2003 to 2005 had run into trouble abroad in its markets in Malaysia, Thailand, Singapore, the Middle East, and Central America when customers complained that the passenger cabin smelt of fuel.

A report said that the automobile company is experiencing a technical snag with the CR-V model in the country. Honda Siel is doing the recall of its premium SUV model as it has found that the fuel tank needs to be replaced. Technical snags had troubled the auto major earlier too. Earlier this year, Honda Motors of the US had recalled as many as 81,000 Accord sedans following complaints that airbag-related sensors failed. In the Indian scenario, back in year 2004, faulty parts such as the fuel pump, transmission and hood-stay had forced Honda Siel to recalled 2,200 units of its Accord.

Meanwhile, the company says that there have been no complaints from India so far. The recall, according to officials, is part of its upgradation exercise. Honda Siel is supposedly placing a breather joint material of improved and revised specification in the new fuel tank of the CRV.

All said and done, the recall is for real. It remains to seen if the cause of the recall was a decision to upgrade or to repair and replace a faulty part.
