Honda has now officially opened bookings for its latest car for India, the Mobilio MPV. The Mobilio’s booking amount is pegged at 50,000 rupees. The commencement of bookings comes just two weeks ahead of the MPV’s India launch, which is slated to happen on the 23rd of July. Honda has already begun producing the Mobilio at its Greater Noida factory, off New Delhi.
In terms of pricing, Honda is expected to price the Mobilio close to the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga, a best selling MPV in India. Expect Mobilio prices to start near about the 6 lakh rupee mark. The Mobilio will be offered with petrol and turbo diesel engine options, with 5 speed manual transmissions standard across both the motors. The petrol and diesel powered Mobilios lead the segment in the all-important fuel efficiency stakes.
The MPV comes with a class leading ground clearance of 189 mm while the wheelbase, at 2,650 mm, is the shortest in its class. Honda’s new target market in semi-urban India is expected to lap up the Mobilio, especially for the high ground clearance and short wheelbase, for these factors help the MPV tide over the less than perfect road conditions with aplomb.
The MPV seats seven adults and comes with interiors that borrow parts from the likes of the Brio and the Amaze, which isn’t surprising considering that the Mobilio is based on the Brio platform. Honda has localized 90 % of the Mobilio, with the high amount of localization being a common thread that runs across all cars in India that are based on the Brio platform.
The Mobilio will be Honda’s first people mover for the Indian market and going by the success that the MPV has already seen in Indonesia, sharp pricing could make the Mobilio the third big hit from the Japanese automaker in India, following the likes of the Amaze and the City sedans.
