Mercedes Benz India is readying up the diesel powered CLS coupe for a launch in early 2015. The luxury car maker has already begun importing the 2015 CLS Diesel into India. The CLS coupe will continue being imported into India through the completely built unit (CBU) route. Essentially, the car is a coupe version of the E-Class sedan.
The diesel powered variant will be positioned as the volumes bagger, and will be the second variant of the car in India. The first of course, if the petrol powered CLS 350 model that uses a 3 liter naturally aspirated, petrol motor for propulsion. The diesel engine of the CLS coupe is a motor that has seen many Indian summers.
The 2.2 liter-4 cylinder turbo diesel engine is a staple on cars such as the C-Class and E-Class sedans. This engine, in the CLS coupe, will output 204 Bhp of peak power and 500 Nm of peak torque. A 9G-TRONIC nine speed automatic gearbox will transmit torque to the rear wheels of the coupe. The diesel engine for the CLS is meant to lower the price of the car.
The CLS coupe with diesel power will be the facelifted version that was unveiled earlier this year. In India, the CLS coupe will take on the likes of the Audi A7 and the BMW 6-Series coupes. Prices of the car are likely to start from 90 lakh rupees. The CLS coupe gets a bundle of changes for the 2015 model year.
The other variant of the 2015 CLS coupe that will be sold in India is the petrol powered one. The petrol powered CLS displaces 3.5 liters in V6 configuration and makes 306 Bhp-370 Nm. The petrol motor uses a 7G-TRONIC automatic gearbox that drives the rear wheels of the coupe.
