Christmas is in the air and so are the year end discounts from car makers of all hues. Mahindra & Mahindra is the latest automaker in India to announce a slew of discounts on its passenger vehicles sold here. Apart from the Mahindra Reva E2O, which is a niche electric car, every other Mahindra vehicle sold in the country is a part of the automaker’s year-end discount scheme. Why, even the Mahindra Scorpio Facelift comes with a small exchange bonus of 10,000 rupees on select variants.
The Ssangyong Rexton features the largest discount of 1.5 lakh rupees. Mahindra now owns South Korean maker Ssangyong and the automaker introduced the flagship Rexton SUV in India a couple of years ago. The Rexton is sold and serviced through Mahindra dealerships and after sales service centers in India. Mahindra’s flagship SUV, the XUV500 crossover, gets a 65,000 rupee discount that includes a cash discount, exchange bonus and a corporate discount.
The dud-selling Quanto compact SUV gets discounts of up to 90,000 rupees while other slow selling cars such as the Verito Vibe hatchback and the Verito sedan make do with 60,000 rupee discounts each. The Xylo MPV is also heavily discounted, at 83,000 rupees. Mahindra’s best selling vehicle, the Bolero, is also not immune from the discounting blitz, what with select variants of the MUV available at a 60,000 rupee discounted price.
A few of the discounted vehicles in Mahindra’s range will have new versions or variants arriving next year. For instance, Mahindra is planning a sub-4 meter Bolero code-named the U301, as a sporty, youth centric SUV. The Quanto compact SUV will gain an automated manual transmission next year. The XUV500 crossover will also gain an automatic transmission next year, with a diesel-hybrid option to follow.
