Mahindra Ssangyong Rexton W: New photos emerge

Mahindra-owned Ssangyong showcased the third generation Rexton W (W stands for Work of Art) SUV at the 2012 Busan Auto Show in Korea.

CarToq had earlier reported about official photos of the new Rexton. The new Rexton is the third generation model, previous models being the Rexton and the Rexton II which is expected to hit the Indian market during the second half of 2012.

The Rexton W boasts of modern design and sophisticated styling that make it look a lot more modern. The projector headlamps, LED turn indicators on the ORVMs, chrome-rich radiator grille and the V-shaped crease line make the new Rexton, an SUV with solid looks and road presence.

The side profile reveals blacked out B and C pillars, well sculpted wheel arches and meaty tyres. The rear quarter glass is neatly designed and the thick D pillar adds to the butch looks of the SUV. The tail section of the Rexton W is a bit too upright and ends like an MPV rather than a SUV. The taillamp cluster still looks a dated while the integrated roof spoiler doesn’t help improve the SUVs looks.

The Rexton W is powered by an e-XDi200 LET (Low End Torque) 2.2-litre diesel engine that churns out 152.8 Bhp of power and 320 Nm of torque. The engine is mated to a 5-speed automatic transmission. The Rexton W returns a claimed mileage of 13.7 Kmpl for the 2-wheel-drive automatic variant.

It comes with comfort features such as smart key access, eco cruise control system, rain sensing wipers, music system with MP3, WMA player and Bluetooth audio streaming.  The Rexton W is equipped with safety features such as ESP, ARP (Active Roll over Protection), TPMS (Tire Pressure Monitoring System), UWS (Ultrasonic Warning System) and a triple-layer steel frame and chassis structure for maximizing passenger safety during vehicle collision.

The Rexton is expected to hit the Indian market during the second half of 2012. But it remains a mystery, whether Mahindra is planning to launch the Rexton II or the Rexton W. Expect the Rexton to be priced in the Rs. 18 lakh – Rs. 23 lakh range. When launched, the Rexton will take on the Toyota Fortuner, Ford Endeavour and its likes. Do you like the looks of new Rexton?
