Mahindra & Mahindra is all set to add another variant to the Ssangyong Rexton SUV that the company sells in its home market of India. The new variant, called the RX6, will sit in between the RX5 and RX7 variants. The RX6 variant will bring all the features offered on the RX7 Automatic variant to the manual gearbox equipped Rexton. Currently, Mahindra sells the Rexton SUV in RX5 Manual and RX7 Automatic variants.
Currently, the RX5 is priced at 18.87 lakh rupees while the RX7 sells for 21.1 lakh rupees. The RX6 variant will be priced in between the RX5 and RX7 variants. Apart from additional power and torque, and an automatic gearbox the Rexton’s RX7 variant offers a large number of additional features including safety features such as ESP, Anti-Slip Regulation (ASR) and active rollover protection. Here’s a list of features that the RX6 Manual variant of the Rexton SUV is likely to get:
- Leather seats
- 8 way electrically adjustable driver’s seat
- Automatic day/night functions on the inner rear view mirror
- Memory function for driver seat and wing mirrors
- Electric Sunroof
- Cruise Control
- Automatic headlamps and wipers
The 2.7 liter-5 cylinder Daimler sourced common rail, turbo diesel engine will be retained on the new Rexton RX6 variant with the 162 Bhp-340 Nm state of tune, along with a 5 speed manual gearbox that offers a 4X4 low ratio. The Rexton RX7 Automatic variant gets a higher state of engine tune, with the 2.7 liter diesel motor outputting 184 Bhp and 402 Nm. The 5 speed automatic torque converter gearbox on the RX7 gets an all wheel drive function.
At the 2014 Indian Auto Expo, Mahindra and Ssangyong showcased a Rexton SUV outfitted with the new xDI-200 turbo diesel engine, with a smaller engine capacity of 2 liters, in a four cylinder layout. The new 2 liter turbo diesel engine is a more fuel efficient unit than the 2.7 liter-5 cylinder motor, while also lowering tailpipe emissions. However, it is less powerful, with a 151 Bhp-360 Nm state of tune. The new engine is likely to debut on the Rexton by the end of this year.
