Maruti Suzuki new Ritz K12M engine unveiled

Maruti Suzuki India unveiled its new 1197cc K12M engine for its soon-to-be-launched hatchback Ritz.

The company will manufacture the engines at its engine manufacturing facility in Gurgaon.

Like the K10B engine manufactured by the company earlier, the Maruti Suzuki K12M engine is a full-aluminum engine designed to deliver 85 ps of power.

Maruti Suzuki has said that the new K12M engine is the second in the Kseries and retains the technological superiority and fuel efficiency of the K10B engine which powers Maruti Suzuki A-star.

The Maruti Suzuki K12M engine will come with a Rocker-less DOHC cam shaft, Plastic Intake Manifold and Offset Crank shaft with low tension rings to improve upon the fuel efficiency.
“The K12M engine is another example of Maruti Suzuki’s commitment to take engine technology in India to the next level. The K12M engine further strengthens Maruti Suzuki’s efforts for fuel efficient, green engine technology for Indian customers,” Shinzo Nakanishi, managing director and chief executive of Maruti Suzuki, said.

The Maruti Suzuki K12M engine meets the Bharat Stage-IV emission standards. The company claims that the K12M engine is the first  Bharat Stage-IV emission standards compliant engine used in passenger cars in India.

The K12M engine will be manufactured keeping Indian roads in mind. Improved engine stiffness and use of advanced technology like silent timing chain have been included to improve NVH characteristics and make the K12M engine suitable for the Indian roads.

The Maruti Suzuki K12M engine will come with a Rocker-less DOHC cam shaft, Plastic Intake Manifold and Offset Crank shaft with low tension rings to improve upon the fuel efficiency.

Other features of the K12M engine includes a Smart Distributor Less Ignition (SDLI) system with dedicated plug top coils, high-pressure fuel system, and advanced injectors.

The Maruti Suzuki K12M engine’s higher grade engine oil, increased spark plug life, silent timing chain, and valve clearance adjustment will give the customer a low-running cost.

The higher-grade engine oil is said to improve first changeover time from 1,000 Km to 10,000 Km, and the spark plug changeover time from current 20,000 Km to 40,000 Km.

The company says that the silent timing chain of the Maruti Suzuki K12M engine has longer life in comparison to conventional belt design, reduced valve clearance re-adjustment frequency because of Tappet Design.
