To makes its debut at the 2016 Auto Expo next month, the Maruti YBA will be called Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza, the company has confirmed in an official e-mail. It has also released a teaser sketch for the vehicle.
The Maruti Vitara Brezza will be launched following the unveil at the Auto Expo, where more details such as the powertrain options and trim levels will be out. Earlier reports have confirmed that the vehicle will be based on a front-wheel drive platform, an AWD as an option is unlikely, too.
Powering the vehicle are likely to be the same engines as the recently introduced Baleno: a 1.2-litre petrol engine and a 1.3-litre (Fiat-sourced) diesel unit. Whether or not SHVS (mild hybrid) makes it to the latter remains to be seen, and same can be said about the inclusion of an AMT gearbox on the latter and a CVT on the former. A 5-speed manual gearbox will be standard on both the engines.
It was earlier predicted that Maruti could use the Vitara Brezza to widen the line-up sold via the NEXA premium dealerships, but a recent report mentioned that it’s unlikely to happen.
The compact SUV will be positioned against vehicles like the Ford EcoSport and knowing Maruti, it’s safe to say that it will be aggressively priced. Features like dual airbags and ABS could be offered across the range (like in S-Cross), while the spy shots have shown a black interior with silver accents (like in the Swift. Notable exterior features will include a high ground clearance, squarish wheel arches, a floating roof, etc. A recent sighting also confirmed the presence of projector headlamps with DRLs, roof rails, what appear to be 16-inch wheels, etc.
