Maruti Suzuki has also announced that the week long plant shut down for maintenance in December 2010 will hit its vehicle output by 26,400 cars. Maruti’s Gurgaon and Manesar plants will be closed for maintenance from Dec 27, 2010 – Jan 2, 2011. Generally Maruti Suzuki closes its plans twice a year in June and in December for maintenance purpose. And, Maruti Suzuki keeps dispatching cars to the dealers even during maintenance shutdown periods (1 week usually) as the company will have a 7 to 8 days of stocks. But now, due to high demand, the stock inventory is only for about 1 or 2 days and therefore there will be minimal dispatches of its cars to Maruti Suzuki dealers. All this add up to a weak long waiting period for the prospective Maruti customers.
Maruti has been refreshing its line-up in a hurry. The year saw it launch the new Alto range which is its best selling model. Other big sellers like Wagon R and Swift too saw new versions launched as did Estilo. India’s biggest car maker is not in a hurry to let others grab market share. And its doing all that it can to defend its crown.
Maruti is planning to introduce 7 new models in the next 2 years and the company has already given hints of the upcoming models: a ‘Made in India’ small car to sell alongside Alto (2012 launch), a MPV based on RIII concept to compete with Toyota Innova ( 2012 launch), a sedan equivalent to Esteem, Kizashi (Jan 2011 launch), new Swift, Swift Dzire (March 2011 launch) and SX4 diesel (Feb 2011 launch).
