Very soon Petrol’s price gonna touch the Rs.80/ltr mark & if Diesel’s price still remains at Rs.40/ltr at that time then this claim will be more justified. And if it materialises then very soon we are gonna see scores & scores of Diesel hatches, sedans & SUVs instead of the Bikes thereby resulting in Excessive Traffic Jams & Pollution!!

Agreed that abject running costs might be lower for certain diesel cars, but if you factor in sticker price, maintenance etc, the car is always more expensive. I am curious about the Nano diesel. With a sticker price of, say, 1.5 lakh for the base version, we will have a 28 kpl of diesel Nano versus an RE Classic 500 costing around the same with…[Read more]

Switch off the AC button when the car is cool enough. This applies to cars without climate control. If the car is equipped with automatic climate control, set the car to optimum temperatures to prevent the compressor from running for a long time

Smartly use the AC means we should avoid keeping AC ON on signals, you can also keep AC power at min here… lower rpm lower AC…at higher rpm it doesn’t matter

Even Better, Keep the Damn Rickshaws off the road, No congestion, No road rage, No frustrated Drivers, No Bottle necks, even the BEST drivers are very calm and better fuel average, I realised our problem really is Very High percentage of Idiots on the Street, and not an inadequate road infrastructure.

I try to switch off engine when stopping at a light or when not in use for more than 1 min. I try to avoid minimum use of AC. This can also help in saving some amount of fuel.

        same experience here…

My Honda City 2010 is more efficient than my Hyundai I10 (1.2 kappa) 2009…

From i10 i can get max. 17 km/ltr (with WIDER TYRE set)..

Its all depends upon the Engine’s Power to Weight Ratio, Tyres, Gear ratio, Aerodynamics, Suspensions etc. etc.

Hey… for bike owners… use better engine oils… timely change the oils and use high performance oils… they improve performance and better accelaration…. Maitain an optimum speed always while riding, for eg: for FZ or Fazer, you get 40+ only if u control and ride at speeds of 45 and 50…. 60 and above dips the efficiency….

And better, dont use performance kits and filters… they can drink the petrol sometimes that when you sometimes hit above 90 or above, the efficiency might be way below 20 sometimes… :P :P

Well, we have a Maruti Suzuki Zen VX of 2001 model. It’s a petrol hatch, gives a reasonable mileage of 15km/ltr in the city & 2-3km/ltr in excess on the highway when driven at an economic speed of 70-80km/hr. We are desperately looking for a good fuel efficient diesel hatch as our car too has grown old & petrol prices are sky rocketting day by…[Read more]

The VW diesel engine is nothing great compared to the Fiat. This has been proven among all forums worldwide. Suzuki didn’t turn down their deal with VW for Fiat engines for their small cars just like dat. VW in case of their engines, are just hatching their brand name in India. Their best is actually yet to come.
