Look at the Skoda Rapid. It is a no nonsense car, made and sold at the right price. Should tick most boxes for you.

Sunny XL is an option too, if space is a priority for you. Rapid, otherwise.

The Figo Titanium Plus diesel would fit comfortably in your budget and meet most of your priorities. The Vista LX also is a good choice.

I have booked a Skoda Rapid! Thank you all for your advice. But Rapid doesn't have parking sensors even in the top model and I want it in my car. The dealer is asking for Rs. 10,000 for installing the park assist system (the one which is without a rear view camera) but as far as i know it is available for less than Rs. 5,000 in the market. I know i can get it installed from outside but the dealer -- more --

You can get an Autocop parking sensor system installed (Rs 5,500). As long and the person who installs it does not cut any wires and uses direct connectors to the existing wiring (it requires one connection to the reverse lamps and one to a power source), it won’t void the warranty. The reason the dealer will suggest it that you do it at their…[Read more]

I want to buy a diesel sedan in the budget of Rs.8 lakh- Rs.10 lakh. Need to choose from the Hyundai Fluidic Verna, Nissan Sunny, Volkswagen Vento and the Maruti Suzuki Sx4. My priorities are decent mileage, build quality, good pick up, performance and low maintenance cost.

The jack of all trades car here is the SX4. It ticks all the boxes to quite some extent and beats the others hands down when it comes to ASS, both in terms of costs and service network spread. However no modern diesel needs much of a nip and tuck too often. That being said, the most competent car in my book is the Vento’s cousin, the Skoda Rapid.…[Read more]

Pick the Rapid or the Vento depending on what strikes the chord right with you. Both of them tick all the boxes that you have mentioned except maintenance cost which is slightly on the higher side but not something that will have you worrying.

Prakhar, for a daily running of 30 kms, a diesel car doesn’t make economic sense. Now, coming to the car recommended, I d recommend the Swift Dzire Automatic. It is a no nonsense city car with Maruti’s service network as an added advantage.

50 km driving daily usually means its better to buy a diesel car. especially if you are buying on EMI. Cash down too, diesel is better at 50 km daily. Fiesta Classic mid-variant diesel is available at 6,58,300 in Delhi and slightly higher in other places – so it can fit in your budget. And it is a great car to drive. easily better than the Figo.…[Read more]

I’m assuming you’ve consciously left out the Swift because of the waiting. If not, you might want to consider it. And maybe also the Micra. If it’s space you want, and want a practical car- it’s the Figo; while if you want a more funky design, decent mileage it’ll be the Beat LT.

There’s also the Honda Brio in this price range. Great styling, great engine, but not really big on space.

For question 1: If you are buying the car via loan, calculate the difference between the EMI for Zxi and EMI For Zdi. If you think the EMI for Zdi is affordable, go ahead buying the Zdi.

35 km a day comes to around 1500 km a month. Usually, if you are buying the car on EMI, 1500 km means a diesel car will save you money. We will update the Diesel Decider (on th left side, under Car Apps) with the new DZire’s information on Monday, so then you can use it to find out exactly how much u will save with a diesel car (both on EMI or cash down)

They should have done this earlier. Sometimes I feel Hyundai EON took most of its ideas from A-Star, and made it better. But A-Star is well engineered car, its safe, it handles well and more dynamic then other chassis/model that share the K10 engine. But sadly, our market needs practicality whereas A-Star is sports centric. People didn’t took…[Read more]

Premier Rio Video Review from Auto Expo 2012!

Premier Auto unveiled a new facelifted version of the Premier Rio at the recently concluded Auto Expo 2012. The new Rio compact SUV clearly looks better, and is the most affordable SUV in India. If you are in the market for a cheap, affordable mini-SUV, you should take a look at the new Rio.
