Tata Nano diesel to be unveiled at 2012 Delhi Auto Expo

Tata Motors may unveil the much anticipated diesel version of the Nano at the 2012 Delhi Auto Expo. The Nano diesel could be a game changer as rising petrol prices are push car makers to offer small diesel engines. The demand for diesel small cars consequently has been increasing.

It would certainly shake market bcoz of fuel economy… All the people should understand they r buying a new diesel car around 2lac price range, we can not compare it with cars we can buy in around 4 to 5lac range.

if they r able too keep engine noise low and better cabin insulation.. plus aggressive pricing.. then at 35-40kmpl it would be a success

I guess its the reports which suggest that it might give 30-40kmpl… For sure, given the low price if diesel even 25kmpl is quite good for a 4 wheeler.

Tata should have launched the Diesel Nano first coz the target audience are 2wheelers. A middle class family man buys a 100cc bike for 50-60K. the millage he gets is around 60kmpl. so roughly his running cost is Rs 1 per km. if the diesel Nano gives a millage of around 35, then the running cost of nano also be around Rs 1. now this will make sense…[Read more]

Mahindra should change it’s design…. If we look at in 7 lakh segment…we have much better sedan Manza , Etios , fiesta classic , Dzire & new sunny… :) …. But if we look in SUV segments…Mahindra is going to rock after launching XUV 500… so they should leave it old design of logon by renault.

I agree with you. Pricing will play a very imp role in the success of this SUV. Anything over a certain limit and it will instantly go into fortuner territory. So M&M will be smart if it can hold the price down to the 11-14 lac range. Tata Aria and Suzuki Kizashi both suffered because of this reason. 68 bhp makes liva stand in line with Figo diesel, so sufficient power… mileage of 23.59 kmpl means, on-road, we may get 18-20 kmpl… and its a proper 5 seater. only if you ignore some bad plastic bits, the car is a promising buy.

Nice statistics, what I feel is that the smaller and lower powered but frugal diesel engine helped toyota to lower the production costs and get Altis priced a bit lower than Chevy Cruze and this trick did this wonder in stats. No doubt Altis is a great car but I’ll still go with the diesel rocket Cruze.
