Chevrolet Sail premium hatchback video review at Auto Expo 2012

General Motors unveiled Sail hatchback which will replace U-VA at the Auto Expo 2012. The Sail is a lot more stylish than the outgoing U-VA and therefore, is better equipped to compete with the likes of Maruti Suzuki Swift and Hyundai i20 in the premium hatchback segment.

Are we going to see a repeat of the UVA here? It doesn’t stand out and the premium hatchback segment is pretty harsh on the manufacturers, so let’s see..

XA Alpha is a concept. They have announced Ertiga now, and Ertiga was a concept at the 2010 Auto Expo. So if we go by that speed, the Alpha will launch only by the time of the 2014 Auto Expo! But Maruti knows there is demand for it, so they might do it faster – still it will take at least one year

Guess, Maruti Suzuki will closely watch the success of mini SUVs like Renault Duster and Ford EcoSport. Based on this, the company may develop the production version of XA Alpha ;)

Ertiga will come with 2 engine choices – a 1.4 litre K series petrol and a 1.3 litre DDIS superturbo diesel engine (like the SX4 diesel). The Ertiga is 4265 mm in length, so it doesn’t qualify for the sub-4 meter sops and hence, prices should be over Rs. 6 lakh for the base variant. What was on display at the expo was the top-end ZDI variant.

Punto is the best car to go with as many have suggested and i20 has loads of equipment list where you can also go with that but both have respective issues:
Punto has A.S.S problems as it is tied with Tata which is the main cause for lower sales number but a good car to drive as others said here

India probably wont see Punto evo in 2012. Go 4 punto aftr the jan 3rd upgrades. Fiat will have separate showrooms by 2012 end, service will be better. Tata service isnt bad everywhere, just ask fiat owners in your area. Punto is easily the best diesel hatch.

Now its 171 mm.. Also there is a thick engine guard.. Better ground clearance is sure after upgrades. Some websites predicts 185 mm or195 mm (GC of SX4 is only 190mm)!! Wait 4 jan 3rd.

Mr. Mayur, who told you that Punto’s maintenance is high. I can bet that it almost 50% of i20. Hope you would not belive, but you always can check for actual price. I am a owner of Punto and it has crossed 35K so far. I can say its a excellent machine. May be its a bit slower on red lights due to the way its tunned but its not exactly the place to race.

Punto has some low quality plastics especially in height-adjustable seat belt latch and parcel trays. Steering mounted audio controls are offered only in top end Emotion variant. Rear headroom might be a bit of concern for six foot plus persons. Fiat need to emphasize on the after sales part as well to boost its car sales.

Only major work was a clutch overhaul at 90,000 km, and drive shaft change at 1.10 lakh km, along with some suspension work. It’s trouble free and smooth to drive even now. Just got a new set of tyres last weekend (3rd set – now on Yokohama A-drives).

Rapid or Vento, you’re essentially getting the same car. Look at which car is more convenient for you – as in access to service station etc. Rapid is about Rs. 25,000 cheaper than Vento variant for variant – also the Rapid has 8 variants (5 petrol, 3 diesel), while Vento has 5 (3 petrol, 2 diesel).

Well you say you wont drive your car more than 50kms a day and your budget is well given. At 5.5 lakhs on-road you will get I10 sports model, and the petrol engine is refined as well. The maintenance is a bit higher than that of maruti but its manageable.Else if you need a great petrol motor will aggressive looks then have a look the Brio which is…[Read more]

as per ur requirement i think u shud go for SWIFT. as its looks good, the engine is also frugal, has low maintenance cost its A.S.S. is also good. Also look for i20.only its draw back is its less frugal.but a safe &sturdy car.

yes, except India all other countries are charging diesel with just 5-10% difference(even in pakistan its 94rs petrol – 79 rs diesel). well there is no guarantee of petrol either.. from last june 2010 our so called govt. has increased almost 19rs. (rs. 56 to 75), it may reach up to 100 till 2012 year end. where as to reach 80 rs mark diesel will…[Read more]

I like Grande Punto but Swift and Hyundai i20 are safer options. i20 has more space so if you frequently lug 5 people, its a better option. Also the ride is quite comfy though handling is so so. If you want great handling and slightly less space is not a problem, then there is nothing to beat Swift.

Why don’t you got a 3/4 years old Honda City, Maruti SX4 or Honda Civic. One of my friends recently bought a 4 year old (but very good, almost new like condition) Honda Civic only for 5.25 Lakhs.
