I used to drive an Alto… It was a fantastic car with all the requirements you have posted.. low maintenance, great mileage and easy on pocket… The new alto 800 can be good option …
If you want a good looking car with amount of features than opt for EON… otherwise if you want a car that handles well with consistent mileage and low maintenance than go for Alto k10… I will suggest Alto k10 over EON as it has low maintenance and great mileage, as you want…
The Hyundai Eon would be suitable for your needs and will provide ample space for your family too. The Alto is a good option and alternative too but its cramped, so unless you do not frequently drive with passengers, you could choose the Alto K10.
I will suggest the Alto, and if you want some a bit more modern, the Eon. A bit more power, then the Alto K10. The most value for money choice will be the new Alto. It is not a difficult decision in this price range. Alto 800 is the safest buy, and the most value for money too. But if your budget allows, then pick the Alto K10 (fr more power) or…[Read more]
Maruti Alto 800 is the Best option.
As has been mentioned by the experts the Alto K10 would be a good choice in this budget. You can also consider the Chevrolet Spark- it’ll give you pretty good mileage, and with the Chevrolet Promise retail scheme included, you don’t have to pay anything for service for the first 3 years of ownership; thereby making it very economical to own.
I would suggest getting a standalone device or a good smartphone instead of the in-dash GPS device. Go for a good music system (Pioneer, JVC, Sony) instead, and get a separate GPS device for navigation. Sound quality and output would be better from any of the other brands here.
Anirudh, the standard stereo it comes with is not too bad, so if you get the speakers changed, that should be good enough. Map my india`s in-dash device is quite expensive (customized for each car make and model) as far as i know. their video and audio capabilities are limited, therefore a JVCpioneer etc will do much better.
nice choice buddy… have a safe drive… and enjoy your ride…
Congratulations Anirudh, it’s a great choice. I’d suggest don’t mess around with the inbuilt music system you can get the speakers changed for better audio quality if you want. For GPS, go for a separate device. There’s mapmyindia and the recently launched tomtom to choose from.
Thanks for your answers… I used a stand alone mapmyindia device in my old car but the biggest problem were 1. Dangling charging wire from unit to plug in point in car.. 2, I had to remove the unit everyday from the stand which was provided.. I was thinking more on lines that car will look neat with a in dash system… no wires.. no daily taking…[Read more]
The Honda City is a great car to drive in city and it is still good on the highways as well.but what makes it better along this is the years of Honda’s trust and quality.the car will serve you well for years without complaints.on the other hand in pure drivers sense, the ford fiesta is a better fun to drive car with true feel.if you like it better…[Read more]
Thanks for ur reply Joy… What are your views of maintenance of ford… i have heard ford cars are quiet expensive to maintain … spares are expensive and the over all cost of ownership is quiet high.. heard some horror stories about owners of Ford Ikon from my own office… Ford people are however telling me that now they have a plant in…[Read more]
The high maintenance of ford was a true story back in the glorious days of the ford ikons(Especially Diesels).but those days are no more.the costs have been reduced considerably and it is just like owning any other cars in this segment as maintenance is considered.the ford has taken the path of Chevrolet which also had a bad reputation in…[Read more]
Not many people own the new Fiesta, so a bit difficult to say what the maintenance of the new Fiesta is like. We had once talked to the company in detail, and they told us the car is engineered to be the least expensive when it comes to maintenance. Ikon was a different story altogether, from some 2 generations back
The point really here is,…[Read more]
Fiesta 1.6 is any day better than City when it comes to the Driving experience. City has a good petrol engine but somehow it lacks the bite , steering is not so great either. Space wise Honda scores better in the back seat and thats about it. Dont expect Honda to be cheap in maintenance either.
Cost of maintenance and spare of Honda is costlier than Ford. As said by friends earlier, Ford had a bad reputation for service during the Icon era but now, it has changed during coarse of time and is on par with other brands. New Fiesta is superb car to drive and you will love it more after each drive. Most parts of New Fiesta are imported from…[Read more]
Thank you so much to all of you for your inputs…
… what i will do now is test drive both the cars once again and then take the final call… Your feedbacks are much appreciated
Congrats Anirudh for ur City . I also in same confusion as u r just wanted to know what made to select city over fiesta .
Hi Baljit…. Why i chose city is mainly because of the space if offers and the the brand image. Though the driving dynamics of Fiesta is a little better than city but when i looked at the over all comfort, ass and piece of mind later on i found Honda car to be a better choice… Since my idea is to keep the car for long term so i found honda…[Read more]
Go for a diesel car as it would be evil to install CNG in any of these cars while they are new
Plus with diesel you will not lose out on power and performance.
The SX4 among the list that you have given, comes with a company fitted CNG option – the SX4 Green. Check it out. If you are primarily going to be using it in Delhi, CNG should be fine, but if you’re going outstation – then you’ll have to switch to petrol for a part of these trips. In that aspect, a diesel would be better – which would then rule…[Read more]
Agree with Rishabh. Go for Diesel. Diesel comes close to CNG in economy I believe. I personally think CNG tech is just not up to the mark yet (compared to petrol and diesel tech). It comes close, but not perfect yet. For peace of mind, I would suggest diesel.
1000km a month does not really justify a diesel. Check out the SX4 green. This car retains a usable amount of boot space even with the gas cylinder. Running costs on CNG are a good 25% less than diesel. A tankful of gas will give you a range of around 200km. They have now opened CNG stations in Agra and Gwalior too. Personally, I am a rather…[Read more]
Thank u all for ur comments!!!

That’s a short list, considering your expectations. I would add the Nissan Sunny, the VW Vento and the Skoda Rapid to your list. All these, especially the Sunny, are feature rich, well built and give decent mileage. If you wish to choose from the 3 you’ve listed, it would be either the Verna or the City [pending your impressions after a test drive
]
I would suggest the Verna SX, but guess its out of your budget
skoda rapid elegance or honda city
The Sunny XV will probably suit you best at this price. Push button start, key-less entry, steering audio controls, automatic climate control, ABS, two airbags – all part of std equipment. Among your list, the Hyundai Verna 1.6 VTVT comes close, with only drawback being a single driver’s airbag only. Otherwise it has auto climate control,…[Read more]
verna.
Thanks guys for ur comments…. hows ur take on linea 2012 model??? reading ur comments i will streach my budget by 50000 more making it under 8.5 lacs… wat do u suggest on this
Even with a stretched budget, the Sunny is still your best bet. The City V MT is available for a little over 8.5, but it still doesn’t have a lot of the gizmos that the sunny has. do let us know what you’ve ultimately chosen.
No doubt Honda City is a class leader. Its Ivtec engine is one of the best in class for the pickup and handling. U will get a 2012 Honda city CE in bangalore for 8.5 lacs (Price in other city varies atlest 50k) and Other city you will get a City SMT. Dont go with the looks of verna or Vento. Japanese Toyota and Honda are making much better cars…[Read more]
