Which is a good buy? The Maruti Suzuki Swift DDiS (diesel) or the Hyundai i20 CRDi (diesel)? My needs are good overall performance, comfort, mileage and low maintenance. Car price is not an issue.

if cost is not an issue then i20 will be the best choice according to your requirements. Cos it is more spacious, comfortable and has lots of features bluetooth etc. high speed handling of the car is not as good as swift but u won’t notice in normal city-highway driving. The engine is also more powerful and milage is almost comparable to swift.

Anupam puts it perfectly. If price is not an issue, go for the i20. The top end asta(0) variant comes with a 5 star NCAP rating, six airbags and a sunroof.

Agree with Anupam and Shreyans. The top end i20 is a world class car with great features and safety. I personally prefer its looks too – the current Swift (despite the new model) is a boring look. Hardcore enthusiast drivers may prefer the Swift as they want to extract every ounce of fun from the car, but for most people the i20 is the best mix of…[Read more]

Since cost is not an issue, the i20 top-end Asta CRDi is a good pick.

thanx guys fr ur advice..i personally like the i20 for its features and looks..the interior feels upmarket and luxurious than swift..but i am confused in its performance..In many reviews i read, i found i20 lags in engine performance and milege..pickup is sluggish..is it so??…Is i20 only a cosmetic one than a performer?

In pure performance, I think the Swift is better. But the difference is very little. Considering your other requirements also, i20 is overall the better car I feel. Most people are not likely to notice the slight advantage of the Swift in most circumstances.

i20 diesel comes with a 90 bhp engine mated to a six speed gearbox. The engine is awesome when on boost. But it does suffer from turbo lag. Swift is more sedately tuned and provides better drivability.

The i20 is pretty feature loaded and you’ll get it faster than the Swift. If you can, wait for the new i20.

The i20 diesel now has a 5-speed gearbox with the same 1.4 litre 90 bhp diesel. The reason they knocked off a gear is because they needed more six-speed transmissions for the Verna 1.4 diesel which uses the same engine.

I’v just learnt that the new i20, called the ‘iGen i20′ has reverted back to a six speed gearbox on the diesel. The Diesel is priced between 5.96 lakh and 7.44 lakh ex showroom Delhi. They have added rear paring camera with display in the cabin mirror.

@Roshun Personally, I prefer the cleaner face of the older model. But they sure have added some cool new features which are segment firsts

I'm looking for a hatchback. Have narrowed down my search to the following cars: 1. Swift 2. Punto 3. Polo 4. i20 My monthly travel will likely be around 1000-1500/month. I need the car within one month. Please suggest if I should buy the diesel variant or the petrol? Which car should I buy? (I guess I have already ruled out swift :P)

Within one month means you can pretty much forget every diesel except the Punto. However, your running does not necessarily warrant a diesel. Among the petrols I’d say choose between the Swift and the Polo. The 1.6 Polo is one fun car. I will not recommend the i20 now as an updated model is due.

You should definitely go for a diesel variant since your monthly running is high (excess of 1000 km). Among the choices you have mentioned, the Punto will be available mostly within a month. Punto is a great looking premium hatchback, has solid build quality and packs in most of the features offered by its rivals. But Fiat’s after sales service is…[Read more]

I beg to differ with Aravindhan a bit. I feel with 1-1.5k monthly running, a diesel is not an absolute must. Lets not forget that apart from a direct 1-1.25 lakh price difference, most of these hatches have additional discounts and schemes on their petrol variants, which are not available otherwise. So we are effectively looking at a difference…[Read more]

Farhan, go for Polo Petrol (1.6)! Dependable hatch, design will look fresh even after 10 years. It’s an investment, you don’t have to look for another car for 10 years!

You should opt for the Fiat Punto it’s available off the shelf and is a very satisfying vehicle. The Service too promises to improve in the near future. The i20 is also a nice option but the new i20 is expected to come out and if I had time on my hand I would wait for it.

At max 1500 km, you can go with either one. If you are buying on EMI mostly though, diesel might save you more money. Swift is out as you need it in one month. I will rank your choices as i20, Polo and Punto. i20, because the new i20 is cming, and the current one may not be in high demand. with luck, some good discount is also possible. Polo for…[Read more]
