Apparently it is exactly 4 meters in length (not including the spare wheel). This makes it eligible for excise duty sops.

Go with the Swift. It is the more comfortable car. Being a Maruti, maintenance is never going to be an issue. Has more features too.

Yes, but a fully loaded diesel Swift (ZDi) would cost Rs. 6,76,981.15 (ex-showroom Delhi) while a fully loaded diesel Ford Figo (Titanium) would only cost Rs. 5,94,200.00 (ex-showroom Delhi) and that is a huge price difference for a some missing features.

Its not just the price. Swift’s interiors feel so much plusher. And the seats are much more comfortable. The controls are lighter and the ride quality better. If you find the Swift too expensive, go for the Ritz and save some money on what is otherwise an identical car.

On all four fronts, the Swift is better without a doubt but with just a little margin. The price difference between the two is noticeable, which is increased due to the discounts running on the Figo, probably due to a new variant launch or to push sales. The Swift also has an indefinite waiting time. So on paper though the Swift seems like the…[Read more]

The moment you look at their relative price, you start getting some doubts! But if you are not worried about that, then its the Swift.

I’ll say Beat because Figo may offer few things but the difference is still not much. Beat is more reliable and is better looking car. For the highways, Figo is more fun but looking for more city driving Beat is an excellent car with small turning radius and highest fuel efficiency. Interior quality is great but boot space is a problem in Beat.

I’ll suggest Ford Figo; I’m having one and I drove swift too…! ride quality is better in Figo, 2nd gear lag is less in Figo compared to Swift. Good interiors, spacious, Looks like a small, but heavy and will give the feeling of riding an SUV.

Bharat, when you go out of the city, it is not easy to find CNG stations right/ Or are there many CNG stations on your way? CNG kit costs approx 40-50 (not sure) so as your running is not much, it will take you a long time to recover that money I think.

Aravindhan 11 months, 4 weeks ago

I agree with Mathew. Your monthly running is low and you go only once for a long trip which means you won’t get immediate benefits by fitting in a CNG kit which costs about 50,000.

With regular maintenance, the Swift will easily last for 5 years. The Figo is a good car too, but its power is less than the Swift and also it has ground clearance problem (hitting speed breakers) especially when five people travel in it. The Fabia is a great car and quality is also top notch, but the maintenance costs and spare part costs are…[Read more]

the swift is the most tried and tested product in the indian market so that car makes most sense for you but i’l give u an overview of all cars – 1) Figo – Good city drivability, solid build, great handling, great ride comfort and very spacious. slightly underpowered but doesn’t feel it because of lack of turbo-lag. 2) Fabia – good engine, well…[Read more]

The only negative thing about the Swift that I have heard is that the braking on the LXI / LDI / VXI / VDI variants is not upto mark. The Fabia’s 1.2 litre, 3-cylinder is good for city driving but on the highway the Swift can leave it behind. The Fabia maybe more expensive to maintain.

        Shreyans Jain 1 year ago

Do not buy the Fabia with the old TDi-PD engine. It is a really noisy unit and as it has been discontinued both in India and internationally, maintenance and spares are going to be a nightmare. With the new engine, its not a bad deal, especially if they can provide the service record.

@Keval, on the highway, the Skoda may be more stable, but it’s 3-cylinder diesel engine is not in the league of the Swift’s 4-cylinder Multijet engine once the road opens up. On the city, it keeps pace, but on the highway, that engine lacks the mid-range punch and top-end of the Swift.

In any case, the stability and dynamics of the Swift are pretty good. No issues there.

This is is one of the better stories Cartoq has done in a long time. 3 more common rip offs were missed. 1. Citing minor leakages when there are none and replacing the part. 2. Replacing parts which can be easily and properly repaired. 3. Billing obscene amounts of money as ‘outside labour’ charges. The instances of malpractices is only…[Read more]

very good article, everyone should read it thoroughly, the most important thing they waste is the precious time, the service which can be done in 1 hour or max 2 hr service stations waste the whole day of a customer to play their tricks and fool the innocent customer.

thanks ROSHAN. But dont you think that customers still wont be able to do anything about the fooling that goes around at the service station , cazz we as customers are not allowed to stay around our vehicle while its being serviced & besides tht 90% of the customers are not technically educated about their vehicle and hence they fall prey to the…[Read more]

Well Girish, there’s only so much one can do. Just by being wary and well-informed on what can potentially be done at a service station is a start. But can’t help it, as service stations try to squeeze more money out of a customer.

There are service stations where they replace used component from a previously serviced or damaged car and bill for a new one. Check for your wipers, for example, as chances are they might be replaced. They don’t do the entire servicing in your presence.

Wagon R has a smaller engine as compared to the others. Its basically designed as a city car. There are better options for long trips. Firstly, for the expected running, which is rather high, consider a diesel over a petrol. Among the cars you have listed, Figo is the best to drive but I find the driver seat rather low and uncomfortable over long…[Read more]

I would suggest you opt for a diesel Figo as it’s best suited for long drives out of all the cars you have mentioned. Although you will be sitting quite low and people have had issues with its low ground clearance. If you want a better driving position then the Vista and Ritz diesel are also good options.

I just took test drive of liva and figo…comparing both, figo has quality interiors where liva lacks, still we can consider as it’s comes from toyota, space wise liva is good. Hey Jaya, I think economics is also to be considered in terms of least downtime of the car not just initial payout. You should consider a diesel Swift, you wont regret the decision. Superb to drive for long journey, nice reliable torque (both Ritz and Swift use the same engine), for long drives the new Swift is very comfortable in terms of usable…[Read more]

With its highway manners, steering feedback and ride quality, the Punto easily outclasses all hatchbacks for long distance touring. The Swift and the Figo are a close next in competition. I do not think the Liva and the Brio or other “small” hatchbacks are any competition for the “big boys” like Figo, Punto, Fabia, Polo or the Swift. The i20 and…[Read more]
