    Mahindra Quanto first drive impressions

The Mahindra Quanto tries to be too many things in one. It has so many firsts that upon close observation, one tends to see it as overkill. Let me list a few: World's first three-cylinder twin-turbo 1.5 litre diesel engine (good) The first Mahindra vehicle that has a beeper for its turn indicators (annoying) The first Mahindra vehicle to have jump seats specifically designed for your in-l

This car has a refreshed look indeed. The original alto is basically sold in India in the name of A-Star. I can see a miniature of A-star in this new Alto, its good one. Rest of the people may find resemblances with other cars but , personally, I don’t think so. The key reason to success of Maruti 800 and the Alto (older) is its KILLER pricing.…[Read more]

Renault Duster road test and review: Dust storm brewing

The Renault Duster road test has been done and dusted in scenic Munnar. The Duster is creating a new market segment in India – that of compact SUVs – and as far as initial response to the launch goes, it is well on its way to chalking up some good sales numbers for Renault India. Still there are many who aren’t so sure of what the Duster can do, so here’s our road test to put things in per

Succint and to the point. The Duster seems to the answer to the prayers of many tourers in this country, frugal, spacious and well-priced alternative to a sedan with good ground clearance. For those looking for features at the lowest possible price, there are alternatives from Mahindra and Tata.

(please merge my earlier posts… shift+enter doesn’t seem to work on this site!) How good is the Duster on issues like ‘ease of parking’, ‘rear window visibility’ and ‘driveability’ in typical Indian traffic?

Roshun Povaiah 10 months, 1 week ago

Rear view is good in the mirrors – good field of view. Straight out the back window it’s slightly restricted. It is easy to park and has a pretty tight turning circle. In city traffic I would think the 85PS would be better than the 110PS because of the turbo lag, although at slow speeds it crawls quite well.

Hi, I have booked the duster before the launch. Have taken a test drive of the 110 ps REX model. I am quite happy with the car except the rear leg room. But am not able to make my mind between a 110ps or a 85ps. Though the 110 ps was quick and i felt like driving a responsive engine, but I also experience a bit of turbo-lag upto 1600rpm. When I…[Read more]

Buy the 110, but you’ll need to adapt your driving style a little to compensate for the turbo-lag, especially in the hills. You’ll have to downshift early to keep the rpm above 1800 – and then there’s no problem. In the long run, the 110 PS would serve you better. It flies on the highway, but again judicious gear shifting is needed. Eg. when…[Read more]

I think Fiat needs to overcome their previous baggage and provide ONLY the 1.4 litre T-Jet in petrol. But they will obviously not do that since the 1.4 litre FIRE is made for both Linea and Manza in Ranjangaon so it is cheaper to make than importing the T-Jet engine. Same goes for the 1.6 litre Multijet. One of the main reasons for the success of…[Read more]
