I was told by a salesman in a maruti dealership that the airbags do not deploy in a crash situation if we are not wearing seatbelts. Is that true?

The airbag should deploy whether you are wearing your seat belt or not.The purpose of the air bag is to deploy upon impact. The safety belt has the puropse of restraining the driver and passenger in the event of a collision. But the air bag does not deploy based on the belt.

Yea, airbags should deploy anyway. But effectiveness will be a lot less as you will be thrown forward into the airbag in a crash and is likely to injure yourself. Otherwise the seatbelts will keep you in place while the airbag deploys.

Not sure of Maruti, but there are modern cars, which behave this way. Seatbelt indicates the car, that someone is actually sitting on the seat, who needs to be protected during a crash. It tells the car that, the weight on the car seat, is actually a person and not dead-weight (like luggage or books etc).

Is there a mileage difference between Swift VXI and ZXI due to the wider tyres in ZXI? If there is a difference what is the main reason? It's urgent.

One of the salesman in bimal maruti showroom told me that the alloy wheels in the Z variant are lighter in weight and hence it would have more mileage due to efficient pulling of the lighter wheels!

        Gourish 4 months ago

And another salesman in another maruti showroom told that the Z variant’s mileage is lesser by 1 or 1.5 km from the V/L variants due to the increased overall weight of the car. I thought it should be due to the wider tyres. So wanted to discuss this here and confirm. Thanks for your feedback Babychen.

Gourish, looks like Sales men are taking you for a ride :) . With wider tyres as Babychen Mathew

So, to summarize, the mileage in the Z variant gets decreased due to wider tyres but that is evened out by the increased mileage due to efficient pulling of the lighter alloy wheels. Hence the mileage of Z variant remains same as the V/L variant – at least in case of swift. Is that right?

Gourish, approximately yes…. and pls stop looking for absolute answers :) there are none. Cars of the same make and model tend to behave different and depends how they are driven. You can check the clutch of the same car (used) and see the difference for yourself

In reality the engine has to pull the whole body weight of the car and not just the wheels. hence it is the overall weight of a car that matters and not just the wheel weight, when considering for mileage. I will definitely say the V/L variant has a slight advantage in mileage over the Z variant (which has wider tyres and hence more friction). It…[Read more]

    Game changer cars of 2012

Every now and then there are cars that are launched that completely rewrite the rules of the automobile market. These are cars that have something so unique to offer that it’s hard to ignore them. Not all of them are necessarily best-sellers or have to sell in huge numbers. Game changers do things differently. The ups and downs of owning a Figo

In the Figo, Ford has found real success, crossing 2 lakh units sold in August. Priced in Rs. 3.9-6 lakh range, the feature-rich, spacious hatchback provides excellent value for money, with plenty of safety equipment and low running costs.

Figo is for the average class family looking for a simple yet very functional car (diesel) that can run for more than 80,000 kms without any engine problems…

Excellent car in this segment. Great great drivability, good mileage. riding and handling dept. is unmatchable. price tage, etc. complete car for small car buyers. Also would like to mention its class leading boot space.

Thanks cartoq community, that a great article. My comments on Figo being an underpowered engine is for petrol variant, I heard diesel has no turbo lags and has powerful 1.4 ltr tdci engine.

No change in the GC. Still as good or as bad as the pre facelift model.
