SUV means Sport Utility Vehicle… It is usually equipped with four-wheel drive for on- or off-road ability..|
Ertiga doesn’t fall under an SUV Category… Its an MPV- Multi Purpose Vehicle..specially used for long trips with families….
Really! By this definition Innova too is a people mover and it should not fall in the preview of this budget. But i am sure Innova will be taxed..
No ways @himanshu.sagar
Innova will not be taxed as it is a people mover.. and MPV..and our Finance Minister has clearly stated that the tax will raised from 27% to 30% on only SUV’s from the effect of April 1,2013
Its the Excise Duty that will be raised not the tax..
http://www.team-bhp.com/news/budget-2013-car-industry
Looks like Ertiga will escape but there is no way innova will be left out of the loop.
Yeah, the Ertiga and top-end Duster won’t get hit (as the previous budget definition put it on engine capacity of over 1500 cc). But the base Duster, Scorpio, Safari etc will be affected. Also Innova, Tavera and Xylo as well (unless you register them as taxis).…[Read more]
There is no separate classification of MUV or SUV in the motor-vehicle rules – the classification is based on number of seats / engine capacity only / body length only. So Safari and Innova get broadly classified as utility vehicles UVs. SIAM classifies these as B -segment vehicles (Definition: Utility vehicles / sport utility vehicles, 2×4 or 4×4…[Read more]
Im really sorry..Today when i read in the newspapers..it was shocking to see that the government has raised the Excise duty on SUV from 27-30% …
And according their their meaning of “SUV”..they have also raised Excise Duty on an MPV like Innova..
And even SEDANS like SX4,,Corolla Altis and even Honda Civic…
Now i think the Govt. doesnt know…[Read more]
Thanks @Roshun. Bad time for the industry……. They have managed to eclipse the only bright spot which was driving growth…
Honda Brio… In comparison to polo it has a peppier engine almost 90 bhp, its a 4 cylinder engine. Polo is a 3 cylinder and the bhp too is 75. The power to weight ratio in the brio is awesome and so is the drive train. You will also get a much better mileage in the Brio 16-18 to be precise.
go for honda brio if space is not a concern for you….its far better and powerful than VW polo
Consider Maruti Swift also. It has more space too. I think you can go for Swift, it is better in maintainance and handling.
There is a carpet ban of sun films, means no one can legally use a sun film in India.
Simply put, you cannot stick anything on the glass of your car.
No legal sun film anymore. Car manufacturers can put dark glasses with some specified transparency etc but car owners cannot.
if you have a doctor’s permit for skin allergies and/or probability of skin cancer, you can have upto 50% film on the windows of your car. But if found that you are cheating, your licence and the Medical licence of the doctor can be cancelled. Other than that, no film is allowed.
Akash Mehan.. Really that’s some thing neww!
yeah, but you need to be very cautious on that case. if found false, you can land up in more trouble than you could!
For now NO SUN FILMS are legal.only stock company tinted glasses are legal.Regards…
what i personally feel.. We can use 70% Garware or cheaper films and if we get caught then we have to manage, because from last 8 months i am avoiding putting films on my car, but now i m thinking to get it done because driving in sunny day is very hectic in my i20. And many cars on road run with films without any issue.
Atik, We all agree that a carpet ban on Sun films was a harsh decision by the SC, but everything said and done it is now “ILLEGAL”. If we all think in the same way to “MANAGE” then God Bless India. Please be a responsible citizen and help the SC and the Police in performing their duties.
Thanks Himanshu, and i am really sorry for my post.
No Problem @Atik My apologies for flogging you at a public forum.
Ajay, Maruti Zen is a classic car, one can draw parallels with the likes of Rx 100 and RD 350. I has a nostalgia attached to it. My suggestion would be to keep the car, because anyways you would get peanuts if you decide to sell it. Creaking and rattling doors is a standard with Maruti cars. Cartoq member @Roshun…[Read more]
If you work out the economics of it, the cost of buying a new car would still be too much, as you won’t get too much if you sell your Zen right now. You could refurbish it. For the rattling door panels, there is a fix – open all the panels, line it with either Dynamat or some other insulation material if you’re feeling rich, or use yoga mats…[Read more]
You shouldnt even think about selling that car. Its a matter of time when india will see the classic car boom, where prices of cars like the old zen or even the old esteem will go up! Drive it around as much as you want, and follow Roshun sir’s advice!
Agree with Roshun, selling the car won’t even get you a down payment amount for another hatch so you might as well keep it and try out the cost effective methods to sound-proof your car.
Hi Ajay, are willing you Spend half the amount of the down payment to give your zen to a good mechanic and restore it back to glory ?.it will serve you well for the next lakh kms.the mileage you are getting is good and since its a maruti you dont nee to worry about huge maintenance bills.just keep the car for some more, you wont get much if you…[Read more]
The Nissan Evalia perhaps – it is roomy and spacious with enough legroom for all passengers.
I believe the Mahidra Xylo. Significantly wider, better seats and proper windows.
Nissan Evalia is nice, though the only problem i see is that the second row windows do not open. It is like the Qualis last row clip windows. Other than that no problems.
Xylo you will be the most comfortable, but spend considerably more on fuel.
The Evalia, no doubt about it.
For space you have the Evalia and the Innova. You mentioned from the passengers point of view, so dont take the Evalia. I dont think any passenger can stand the looks of that car. Go for the innova, its loaded with space!
Dont go for Evaila.IT doesn’t have hand rest in 3rd row.Not even windows get open partially
Go for xylo its a very comfortable and also very economical on pocket as u save 3 lakhs rupees as compared to innova go for xylo e4 and I am using since 4 years(90000km) and the engine is silent as compared to innova and also more space inside and overall I got for what I paid vfm……

Yes, you can cancel the booking and take a refund if you wish to.
may i know the waiting period u got??
Hi Deepak, I dint have to wait, the car was already there in the showroom!!
That’s great;)
Hmmmm…..the only thing is that it was the only piece in that color and it had been parked for display, now i’m wondering whether it would be a good idea to buy the piece on display??
Hi Rakesh. Both of the are nice SUV. It depends on what you are looking for .. XUV is an luxury SUV with tis own limitation of off road capability and no legroom for 3rd row. where as Safari is an hardcore off-roader with spacious cabin, but it lacks features. You can first choose what you would be using it for and then decide.
Depends on what you want. XUV is more of a soft roader. which can offer a bit of offroading too. Storme can handle offroad terrains much better. XUV is a vfm package as mahindra has packed up so much. It is true that the electrics has problem but they have launched a new version which claims to have sorted out all the problems. Also xuv being a…[Read more]
The Storme is a sofa on wheels, but, it is also as plain jane as a sofa but has great off roading abilities (do you need them is the question). The XUV on the other hand is more fun to drive, is feature loaded and offers greater fuel efficiency but is slightly bouncy compared to the Storme. Take your pick.
overall XUV is better!!!
Recently I have purchased XUV5oo in Chennai W6. I too struggled lot to take decision but at last I have landed in good brand and model. It’s really enjoyable in road and worth for money.
Clutch and power staring is very smooth. You will not feel like driving a big vehicle. Good in pick-up and more features of operation. All early issues was…[Read more]
XUV anytime
@himanshu sagar . You have mentioned that mahindra has launched a new version with all the problems sorted out. Can you please give details about the newer version.i saw a news that they will launch a new model in feb. So which new model are you talking about
Oops my bad… Yes it is supposed to be launched in Feb
XUV 500 (y)
Yes Xenon is 4/4. Yes it can be registered as a pvt vehicle. For more check this out http://www.team-bhp.com/forum/4×4-vehicles/130078-tata-xenon-xt-ex-4×4-ownership-experience.html#post2986565
Tata Xenon XT is basically 4WD vehicle… but d newly launched Xenon Pick-up is a 4*2 vehicle n is available in single cabin as well as dual cabin option powered by a 3.0L DiCOR engine…. yes it can be registered as a private vehicle….
The dual cab variant is meant to be a private vehicle. The definition for the single cab varies from state to state. In KA for instance the single cab would be commercial only.
Petrol engines are pretty happy when revving at high rpms but it does add to their wear and tear. Also, read your owner’s manual and understand the engine speed at which it puts out its max power. Revving beyond that is of no use. Further, please refrain from racing on public roads for legal and safety purposes. India leads in road accidents, and…[Read more]
It is absolutely Ok. Chill and enjoy your ride. These days engines are built to last. Do whatever with them they will atleast last for a lakh. If you treat them well you can expect to double that too… Diesels are even better in this regard
Swift Dzire 1.3 petrol, thats the G13BB, don’t worry about the 6000 rpm (even if its the 1.2L K12). Racing on public roads is a very bad idea from the safety perspective (your own safety as well as others on and around the road, if there is an accident). Revving beyond the figure at which the engine makes peak power is wasting too much extra fuel…[Read more]
Yes, agree with everyone here. What you did (gears v/s speed) is possible and test drive folks probably do it on a controlled track to test vehicles. But when it comes to personal vehicles, why to increase wear and tear unnecessarily and above all putting life at heavy risk.
I raced on a closed road. Worry not, i am a responsible racer! Thanks to all!!
One advice, if you like such high rev driving quite often, better to use pure synthetic engine oil e.g. Mobil 1. It’ll keep you happy in such situation & the engine will be much more protected. My 2 cent
i would suggest u..to convine him till 3 lakhs…or bit less…
not the good deal
I tried to convince him for 3lac or below but instead of lowering the price he is providing me with the insurence, transfer and 6 month warrenty+ some accesories…please suggest
bad deal
suggest me what could be the best price for this deal
Pretty much that is a good price. But still try for a cut if you can… Online, I can see similar prices for i10.
See more than 3 lakh is not worth for this car..even if its running is 33500…i guess new is about 350000..base model…i’ll prefer u not o accept the proposal..next its yr choice..:)
Where are you based out of? A bit overpriced by Delhi standards. Is that dealer authorized in some way? Why don’t you go to Authorized re sellers like Mahindra first choice. You get a good vehicle and years warranty and peace of mind too. I think you can get a similarly spec. car at around the same price. Check this http://www.mahindrafirstchoice.com
@himanshu sagar: ya its from Mahindra first choice only, and they are providing 6 months/7500 km warrenty. Though i even think that its overpriced acc. to Delhi, but still thats the market of i10 wht to do???
Lavesh, pay the extra money and buy peace of mind with the car ![]()
Cheers! and enjoy your ride
