Rajat, if you want a true SUV, then XUV500 does the job better. If you are going to be driving on bad roads a lot, then XUV wins easily. However, Aria is capable of handling most bad roads too. As an SUV though XUV500 is better.

XUV500. although both are comparable, they aren’t really comparable :)

Tata Aria is a good MUV. On road highway manners are very good. May be better than scorpio and XUV. But for looks and sports utility XUV wins hands down.

Wow..none of the comparisons is the engine being discussed….I dont think users evaluate cars based only on features. Engine is very imp. If the Verna has slightly lower average, it has the most powerful diesel in the whole category, how did you miss out on mentioning that? The Sunny is anyway underpowered, but the Verna cant be ignored like…[Read more]

Video: Mahindra XUV500 vs Toyota Fortuner - the better SUV?

It’s not even a fair comparison. The XUV500 is nearly Rs. 7 lakh cheaper than the Toyota Fortuner. Buyers look up to the Fortuner as a very desirable premium SUV. But can the XUV500 actually woo buyers away from the Fortuner. Here’s a video comparison between the two.

Hey hey isnt someone going comment on ownership experiences? I have heard Fortuner has bad brakes..and thats a fact. Even when they are working fine, they are not enough. That would need a rethink. Also I dont think most people prefer and automatic in terms of ofroading, it eats up too much juice and robs you out of gear control which is a must…[Read more]

The brake problem was with the initial models. It has been sorted out for quite some time now. I feel the automatic is actually a better choice for offroading with a not so expert driver. People usually end up giving too much of gas or too much of clutch which ultimately bogs the car down. Best for novices to let the car sort itself out. Not…[Read more]

Like I said, even if the brakes are working fine,,they aren’t enough for the fortuner. If the guy going offroading is a novice, he shouldn’t attempt going real time offroading in such a powerful vehicle without having the confidence to manage such a vehicle. In my opinion, auto is good for off roading on city roads, for the real deal, there s no…[Read more]

the new fortuner has definitely overdone the chrome bit… i mean i would want my Rs 22 lakh SUV to look massive and crude but not so jazzy…the older model was still acceptable… the XUV on the other hand has an acceptable design. Normally, there is no need to change tyres at all. Mostly people do it only for show. Swift does not need any change of tyres. Let Roshun reply about the alloys, I am not so sure about sizes.

Aura, Neo, Platti, HR – all good alloy brands. Buy 15-inch alloys and 185/65 R15 tyres – as the best combination. When you buy alloys make sure the offset is not too much. Also look at the width of the alloy (denoted by 4.5 j or 5.5 j). I think 5.5 J is the ideal size. Check with the alloy-wheel dealer.

I agree with Roshun, buy 15inch alloys and 185/65/R15. One more tip, pls buy from a trusted dealer, Alibhai premji is good. I bought Yokohama 200/60/R14 from Saifee Tyres santacruz and he gave me 6 yr old tyres.

Hey Srinu. I don’t know your specific requirements but overall Both cars are almost equally competent. Etios is slightly more spacious and the service of toyota is more consistent than Ford. But the Figo is more fun to drive and the interiors are slightly better. If you buy the Zxi or Titanium version, you will get very good features like…[Read more]

The issues you’ve heard about the Liva are mostly true. Noise does come into the cabin. The plastic used is hard to the touch and does not look premium. There are some vibrations felt. But, the mileage that the Liva gives and the low-maintenance, long-term reliability of Toyota work in favor of the Liva. The Figo’s ground clearance issue is not as…[Read more]

The Etios is slightly noisy but u can live with it. The interiors are quite dull. The car as such is good and reliable. The stuff you have heard about Figo are not completely true. There are no major issues with the Toyota Liva. It is a practical car, spacious for five people, has decent boot (251 litrs), comes with a claimed mileage of 23.6 kmpl and backed by Toyota’s reliable sales and service network. Another absolutely unnecessary accessory are the PU/art leather seat covers. Park the car under the sun for a couple of hours and they get so hot you can make pancakes on them. Fabric seats work best in India, be it in a Maruti or a Mercedes. I know many people who place towels on the leather seats of their luxury cars for just this reason.
