Good and Smart Idea for fuel consumption
good tips… I tired coasting on Mumbai-Nashik Express way with my engine off and i suddenly realized that my power brakes wont work. I panickingly pulled my handbrake and my car skidded for a few seconds….haha… i wont do that from now….
This is a very good article, covering all aspects, but i have read somewhere that putting the car in neutral whilst driving is sometimes bad for the transmission. Is it true?
ha ha ha @Manzil. i did the same thing. i used some of these tips & i got 30KMPL on my new Dzire Vdi 2012. but with normal driving condition it gives 24 to 25 with AC on.
HYPERMILING techniques are not always suitable for real-world conditions. Except switching off engine at traffic signals and reducing the weight of the car (don’t remove the spare wheel, tools, warning triangle and first-aid kits, though), indiscriminate use of any of the other steps in dangerous. We a CarToq never tell you *EXTREME*…[Read more]
Coasting in neutral in a very good point, especially in a city like Delhi with lots of flyovers. I have brought this into my driving style and it works. Just dont try it with the engine off
its a good tip but neither using the ac nor rolling down the window is a highly pathetic idea for people of New Delhi. we live in an extreme weather climate and only using the bloody fan will seriously gonna kill us. Even an inch opening of windows does not work when u have a direct heat at 40 degree C. Cruise Control are the americans . why have…[Read more]
Petrol or diesel?
All diesel versions
In real world conditions, I believe it is the Swift Dzire. Claimed mileages might be different, but the new Swift Dzire is even lighter than the old one. The diesel engine of the Dzire is also probably the most reliable and hassle free diesel engine in India. On highway, however, the Verna both 1.4 and 1.6 with its six gears is likely to match or…[Read more]
The Swift Dzire, by virtue of being the lightest of them all. However, on the highway, if you exceed speeds of 100kmph on the Dzire, the fuel efficiency drops to second sport behind the Fiesta.
its only dzire. I am getting 23 kmpl with AC on. sometime u may get 28 without AC on long highway run.
Dzire is definitely the most fuel efficient. Fiesta comes in next.
dzire is definitely the most fuel efficient car
worst car from maruti suzuki…….rear it looks very bad……..
worst car from maruti suzuki…….rear it looks very bad……..
This car needs a Butt Lift. Not a Facelift.
ha ha ha… u r right Sri
@ U all… get yoslf bldy Car….. I mean RitZ…..u dnt knw wht it is capable abt…. U A holes…:-)
very bold design, i would say. urban utility car… i would bet on it
What kind of accessories are you looking for? You can get tons of stuff, right from seat covers and HID’s to rear parking cameras etc? Are you looking for accessories that aid driving and security of those that make the car look and feel better?
well the basic things you will need are: 1. Seat Cover, 2. Floor matting, 3. Audio System (four 6′ door speakers are normally enough), 4. Filming on windows, and a spoiler will do the job.
spoiler is already integrated in boot. go for 1. art leather seat cover 2.floor matting 3.rear parking camera with sensor 4.filming(front wind shield too) & get a good fabric clothe to clean car.
Whatever sun-film you get, make sure it is compliant with sub-rule (2) of Rule 100 of the Central Motor Vehicles Rules, 1989. The glass of the windscreen and rear window of every motor vehicle has to be such and be maintained in such a condition that the visual transmission of light is not less than 70%. The glasses used for side windows have to…[Read more]
this car is nuthin but an extended hatch-back car but still it can zoom up…. as u get somethin between MPV and Hatch.. can be called off as a family car
a gud car but if we see its price it have nothing it its price should be 50-70k less then it will be cool but still interior is awesome.:)
used new dzire’s interior.looks good. no lgespace for 3rd row passanger.
I would say Vento diesel – and the sales figures say so too
I may be a little biased towards the Linea (primarily because I own one) but it does look much much better than the Vento. Even the interiors seem more comfortable! The Vento is still the safer bet though (Going by popular opinion)!
linea – italian beauty with performance.
Though you may not get as many convenience features as the Linea, the Vento diesel is overall a better car to drive.
Though Vento has few horses more then Linea but when you drive at high speed you need confidence that Vento’s Soft suspension never provides neither it’s EPS. You can’t make cornering at 140+ speeds then comes Linea that provides superior grip with big tyres and superb HPS and well tuned suspesion and anyday if you say that Tata guys are doing bad…[Read more]

Switch off the AC button when the car is cool enough. This applies to cars without climate control. If the car is equipped with automatic climate control, set the car to optimum temperatures to prevent the compressor from running for a long time
Amruth Ganesh LOL
Even the ARAI certified mileage is lesser than that
what’s the meaning of carpool?
Akash Shetty go google it
Smartly use the AC means we should avoid keeping AC ON on signals, you can also keep AC power at min here… lower rpm lower AC…at higher rpm it doesn’t matter
thanks DWS for nice tips.
Even Better, Keep the Damn Rickshaws off the road, No congestion, No road rage, No frustrated Drivers, No Bottle necks, even the BEST drivers are very calm and better fuel average, I realised our problem really is Very High percentage of Idiots on the Street, and not an inadequate road infrastructure.
I try to switch off engine when stopping at a light or when not in use for more than 1 min. I try to avoid minimum use of AC. This can also help in saving some amount of fuel.
gud thinking g.
MY CITY GIVES 17-18 AVERAGE….
Bye Bicycle…. good exercise…. no petrol… no toll… no pollution…. no parking charges…

same experience here…
My Honda City 2010 is more efficient than my Hyundai I10 (1.2 kappa) 2009…
From i10 i can get max. 17 km/ltr (with WIDER TYRE set)..
Its all depends upon the Engine’s Power to Weight Ratio, Tyres, Gear ratio, Aerodynamics, Suspensions etc. etc.
@Abhi Jeet,@Amruth Ganesh,@Ajay Srinivas Raghavan…
Did YOU ever have a chance to drive HONDA CITY i-vetec (NEW model)??
Dont confuse between Honda CITY and Honda CIVIC…

And for your KIND INFORMATION, i will soon upload the Photo of my HONDA City’s Digital meter showing more…[Read more]

Best useful Tips.
I too get 17.5 kmpl sometimes from my honda city iv tec.
drivin at de speed of 40-50 wil give u gr8 milage…
Alto k10 owners are still, least worried..!!!
Hey… for bike owners… use better engine oils… timely change the oils and use high performance oils… they improve performance and better accelaration…. Maitain an optimum speed always while riding, for eg: for FZ or Fazer, you get 40+ only if u control and ride at speeds of 45 and 50…. 60 and above dips the efficiency….
And better, dont use performance kits and filters… they can drink the petrol sometimes that when you sometimes hit above 90 or above, the efficiency might be way below 20 sometimes…
24.6 kmpl on verna crdi 1.6- highway
29.3 kmpl on highway for my new Dzire VDi & 25.7 kmpl in city driving… following all the tips for fuel efficiency. Never drive above 80kmph.
Could u give me an idea about fuel injector cleaners. How to use them and their price?. Thanks in advance.
Its 71 in Chennai.
Time to park the car in the garage & cycle to work.
Its Really irritating to see petrol being hiked by 3odd rupees every 3 months. By the end of 2012 it may even go upto 100 rupees where the most affected people will be the middle class who own hatch backs. As a result of this people will think twice before taking the key of their cars from the key hanger. For a car giving 12 kmpl, the average…[Read more]
Cycle option is the best option.
Atleast you people are still in the 60s!!!!!
My Alto K10 gives about 12-14 kmpl. So that it will automatically increase the cost about 3200 per year at lest for me.
It is 74.50 in Hyderabad.
74 odd in bangalore.
Petrol price hike: one more reason to seriously consider diesel cars!
I really don’t understand HOW-n-WHY is this being tolerated…. I mean
1. Look at the constant rise in prices &.
2. Why is there so much of a price diff.. I mean.. Delhi is Rs.66/ltr whereas Mumbai is Rs.71/lts & Hyderabad & bangalore is Rs.74 approx… I mean there’s a Rs.10/lts diff.
Isn’t this surprising where we say we are all one &…[Read more]
Much worse… 74 in Bangalore
I think already many petrol vehicles sell has clash and now again Rs 3.15/. increase in price of petrol from yest it is again a trouble in selling for all petrol vehicles.though now there is a huge demand for diesel vehicles but not all diesel vehicles are ready available and waiting period is there.again after few days govt will hike diesel price…[Read more]
Make the petrol Rs100 once for all. We can then dump our cars in garage and start using Metros and buses.
Diesel Punto YO!
its 74 in punjab. . . . But still. . . I luv to drive on petrol.
be ready to pay 100 bucks for 1 liter of petrol by 2012….why is there no regulator like trai to monitor selling price of fuel and other products….isn’t it hypocritical nature of govt. that they decontrol and then control indirectly and allow oil supplying cartel to decide selling price of fuel…bhaiya election karwa do nayi sarkar lek aao aur…[Read more]
sahi jawaab !!!!!
Once upon a time, cars (or whatever passed for cars) ran on steam! Once upon a time, cars ran on petrol! Once upon a time there were cars! Once upon a time…
don’t dare to point any question to this govt….ramdev jaisa haal kar denge……CNG lagva le…..aur chup ho ja…..
@[546382662:2048:Krishna Dhiman] stop being a follower rise to be counted
