In that particular question, the person had asked for choices of petrol vehicles within a budget of 8L. I had chosen Punto 1.4 Emotion and Fiesta Classic Titanium 1.6. The diesel Punto cannot be considered purely being a diesel as the choice was to be made between petrol vehicles. The TJet – Older stock is all sold out and the new does not seem…[Read more]

amit let me rephrase my question, if we keep apart the economical part that is atleast 1200 km of usuage for diesel cars, and no budget constraint. in that case what will you choose for hilly rough roads punto 90 or 1.4 in hatchback segment. and in sedan will the coming linea tjet be your pick. the thing which i am trying to understand is if the…[Read more]

I would definitely go with a diesel engine, especially in rural areas and bad roads. The lower-end torque you get with a diesel is much better to handle slow speed driving over bumpy roads, than a rev-happy petrol. I would go with the Punto 90HP here as it has best of both worlds – good ground clearance and good power characteristics for highway…[Read more]

I would take the diesel for the torque, the VGT and the driveability over petrol. Slow speeds and bad roads, fast speeds and good roads or curved, twisted hilly roads, the ground clearance, the EHPS and the engine guard make a lot of difference. In sedans my vote would go for the TJet, have a ride with a really demanding driver at the wheel and…[Read more]

For rough roads and handling, you have already chosen the best hatch in the Indian market. An upgrade is more than an year away, are you willing to wait over an year to get a newer model? Petrol or diesel is dependent on your expected monthly usage. In my opinion, think of a diesel only if the usage is at least 1500kms a month or more. I have a…[Read more]

The diesel has turbo lag until about 1500 rpm when the VGT starts to spool. The petrol has a linear power delivery and is a lot more rev happy. The diesel has a much smaller power band as compared to the petrol but in the proper revs it offers more torque. The petrol will be easier to drive in the hills than the diesel which will need to be in the…[Read more]

If he is looking at a used TJet and a new diesel Linea, then the TJet is better since he will save quite a lot of money in the purchase price. If both are going to be new, the diesel would be better since total cost of ownership favors diesel for 1500 kms usage a month. and red too will be involved in accidents and get more spot on and caught by traffic police,, so even insurance company has premium charges for red cars ,,, white is a sign of luxury ,,, it hides dust, scratches and keeps ur car looks like new for long ,,, but only thing u must do is wash ur car at regular intervals before they get in off white ;)

Yupp I agree with Nikhil kumar people buy their first car as Maruti Alto 800 due to tight budget, low maintenance, can be serviced any where and good for small family.

It is just a case of perception and an example of the herd mentality of budget car buyers. The Nano is cheaper, smaller, has much more space, a better AC, and much lower maintenance costs. And is as good to drive. The Eon looks so much nicer, has more space and the cabin quality is as good as the Swift. Still people queue up to buy Alto800s

U have made the Right choice..
Punto 90HP is purely a driver’s delight car…with the best handling in its segment…
Its powerful..fun to drive and will comfortable for long drives….hilly roads will not be a problem as it has got good soft suspension and one of the best ground clearance of 185mm so even big speed brakers will not be a problem!!!

Punto 90hp has a fair bit of turbo lag. It will be tricky to drive in the high mountains. My pick here would be the Safari Storme. It is simply THE most comfortable vehicle you can buy for that much money.

If the Wagon R served you well for 3 years, then 5 years of service should be a cakewalk for the Punto since it is a drastic upgrade over the Wagon R. Having said that, I reckon the Storme is a lot more comfortable and spacious than the Punto. Both vehicles have a VGT but the Storme starts pulling almost as soon as the tachometer needle moves away…[Read more]

Abarth is just a sporting kit with certain engine tuning done to the “old” model of Punto in 2 door form. Punto Evo has changed styling – different grill, different centre console and has Fiat’s new “MultiAir” engine which India wont be getting due to costs. Evo is a whole new Punto and now even the Evo-Abarth 2 door has come with the new styling.

The new Evo Punto will also come to India, replacing the current model next year. But its worth waiting to see what Abarth has to offer later this year. The Abarth kit I think can be fitted on an existing Punto 90.

The “old” model of the Punto sits on the same platform as the Evo and the 2012 Punto. Whether the update gets features like steering modes, lots of airbags, the newer engines etc is something that can only be speculated for now. As I previously said, if you have the time and money, you may wait and the Abarths are definitely a league of their own,…[Read more]
