The car is amazing and the Quadrajet engine really packs a mean punch, especially in lower end torque and builds up the revs nicely. Tata are really doing a good job on the rest of the car too!

The advantages are the ability to use it as a taxi when you are not using it, and the option of paying annual road tax. That apart there are no advantages. Disadvantages, you cannot take the car to a different state if it is not an All India Permit which costs a bit more, you will be stopped by cops, especially at other states a lot…etc etc. Why…[Read more]

From the vehicles you have short listed I suggest you go with the figo because its good and stable on the highways, has safety features too good Its a value for money vehicle . It has decent space too when compared to beat but it doesnt win when compared to vista but the bad thing about Tata vista is the company. For long term reliability Tata…[Read more]

Your views on the cars are quite right, there is something lacking with each of them. How about the Ritz Vdi ABS model? It costs Rs 602083 in Bangalore ex-showroom, so on-road should not cross 7 lakhs, right? Or is it higher? I think if it costs just a little bit above Rs 7 lakhs also, you should try to go for it. Maybe wait till there are some…[Read more]

I doubt you will get any discount on the diesel Swift even in December this year. Long waiting list. Ritz………maybe. Except for the rear kicked in looks, Ritz is also a fine car.

If u are looking for safety with ABS & EBD, u can go for Etios Liva Gd as it is very good to drive in city with negligible turbo-lag.

The other problem with Ritz is lighter steering. or do you think, i should wait for an yaer, increase my budget…[Read more]

The Vista Quadrajet is known to give 22 kmpl on the highway, and in the city it’s about 16 kmpl (Delhi conditions). Bangalore, since you rarely go above third gear, knock off another km or two. 14 kmpl should be appropriate.

Vista QJT has the same engine as the Swift. So the FE is similar. 22kmpl on the highway, why not?

I think the deal is fine and car can run for at least 2 lakh+ km more. ZDi has airbags and ABS and few other features which makes it all over a very good vehicle. Just make sure that airbags have ever been used (in accident). I’m not sure about the road tax but could be around 20,000 Rs.

Hi Sudhi, there are plenty of Dzires in the market which would have lesser kms on the clock and a neat service history in Karnataka too. I would not buy an out of state car done more than a lac kms simply because it is too much of a hassle. The car will run fine, but I think the price is a bit steep. Especially since you’re transferring it to KA and KA has one of the highest road tax rates in the country. May not be worth re-registering in KA. I would go with Devdath’s suggestion of a car with fewer KM on the odometer – True Value or otherwise.

The price is too steep, because one is never 100% sure of the abuse meted out to the diesel engine, and secondly because expensive stuff like timing chain replacement, clogged injectors etc are most likely to surface around this time. Also, if the car has not had a suspension job done, it will be needing one very badly. Just timing chain and…[Read more]

“That claimed figure of 32 kmpl for the diesel Ford Classic was achieved in a mileage record test done by Autocar a few years ago on a cross country (Kashmir – Kanyakumari) drive. The Autocar team did not use AC, drove at only 50 kmph, kept windows rolled up and used many hypermiling techniques to get this figure. The ARAI figure for the Classic…[Read more]

so if ARAI figures are 20 kmpl (for diesel), then city milage will be ~15 and highway will be ~18, right

Ride comfort – It has one of the most sorted suspension setups in its class. Maintenance cost – Again nothing to really worry about since its platform and most components have been localized by Ford over the years and the standard maintenance is at par with vehicles in its class. You should not have any concerns about the service costs, spare availability, service interval, comfort and GC of the Fiesta Classic. All of them are at par with other similarly priced vehicles like Dzire with the dynamics being significantly better. Expect 15-16kmpl in city with AC. Ford has been claiming lower maintenance costs now on Figo, Classic and new Fiesta, ever since it started heavy localization of parts and a comprehensive “child” parts strategy – where for example if you have trouble with your alternator, you don’t need to replace the whole alternator (that would cost about Rs. 8,500).…[Read more]
