Mercedes Benz India has begun the customer previews of the 2015 W205 C-Class luxury sedan in India. The car was showed to a select bunch of prospective buyers in the IT hub of Bangalore. In the next few weeks, more such customer previews for the W205 C-Class are likely to be held at locations across India, in the run up to the car’s launch here on the 25th of November. The W205 C-Class luxury sedan will be initially imported as a completely built unit (CBU) with petrol power to start with. The diesel engined variant will arrive later, as the major sales spinner in the W205 C-Class line up.
Shortly, Mercedes Benz India will begin assembling the W205 C-Class luxury sedan in India through the completely knocked down (CKD) kit route. The luxury car maker has already stopped CKD assembling the outgoing C-Class at its Chakan assembly unit. The W205 C-Class is based on an all-new platform and represents the fourth generation of the car range. The W205 C-Class has been put on an aluminium-steel diet that has shaved nearly 100 kilograms of weight. This weight reduction is said to improve performance, fuel efficiency and lower tail pipe emissions of the W205 C-Class.
In terms of engines and transmissions, both the petrol and diesel engined variants of the car will use 7 speed automatic transmissions that drive the rear wheels. The petrol motor is a 2 liter-4 cylinder unit with rated outputs 181 Bhp-300 Nm while the diesel motor is a 2.2 liter-4 cylinder unit with 168 Bhp-400 Nm outputs. The W205 C-Class will also see the addition of a more powerful C 250 CDI diesel variant and a high performance C 63 AMG variant. The car is Mercedes Benz’s answer to the 2015 Audi A4, the F30 BMW 3-Series, the Jaguar XE and the Volvo S60 sedans.
