Ahead of the W205 C-Class luxury sedan’s November 25th launch in India, Mercedes Benz has begun importing the CKD kits of the W205 C-Class sedan. CKD kits of the petrol powered W205 C-Class sedan have been imported into the country. The import of the diesel powered W205 C-Class version is likely to commence shortly.
Mercedes Benz will take a phased approach towards the introduction of the W205, fourth generation C-Class sedan. The German luxury car giant will begin with the petrol powered C-Class, to be initially imported through the CBU route. CKD assembly will follow at Chakan.
The W205 C-Class brings a lot of new features to the table. Firstly, you have the aluminium steel hybrid structure of the car, which shaves nearly 100 kilograms. Then there’s the styling, replete with the plunging roofline at the rear that mimics the W222 S-Class luxury saloon.
On the inside, Mercedes Benz has completely revamped the innards of the car, to make for a more premium cabin. The car gets more spacious for its occupants, thanks to the larger overall dimensions. In terms of infotainment, the COMAND interface has been given suitable tweaks to bring it up to speed.
The petrol and diesel engines, and the automatic transmissions of the W205 C-Class have been borrowed from the outgoing version. However, the engines will feel more sprightly and eke out more mileage due to the W205 C-Class’ lower kerb weight. The petrol motor is a 2 liter-4 cylinder, naturally aspirated unit that makes 181 Bhp-300 Nm.
The diesel motor is also a four cylinder unit, but displaces 2.2 liters and makes use of a turbocharger to make 168 Bhp and 400 Nm. A more powerful tune of this very engine (204 Bhp-500 Nm) is likely to make it to the engine bay of the C-Class in 2015. A 7 speed traditional torque converter automatic gearbox handles transmission duties to the rear wheels of the sedan.
