It’s now official. Mercedes Benz India has lined up the W205 C-Class luxury sedan for a launch on the 25th of November, 2014. The announcement of the W205 C-Class sedan’s launch in India comes close on the heels of reports that put the car’s launch in January 2015. Clearly, Mercedes Benz has other ideas. The W205 C-Class luxury sedan will replace the W204 model, whose assembly has already been stopped at Mercedes Benz’s Chakan factory, off Pune. Like its precedecessor, the W205 C-Class sedan will be put together at Chakan, from completely knocked down (CKD) kits.
The car will be sold with petrol and turbo diesel engines. A 2 liter-4 cylinder petrol engine that outputs 181 Bhp-300 Nm and a 2.2 liter turbo diesel engine with 168 Bhp-400 Nm outputs will be deployed on the W205 C-Class sold in India. In a few months time, expect Mercedes Benz to bring in a more powerfully tuned version of the 2.2 liter turbo diesel engine, with a 204 Bhp-500 Nm output. Both the petrol and turbo diesel engines of the W205 C-Class sedan will drive the rear wheels of the car by means of a 7 speed 7G-TRONIC automatic gearbox.
Mercedes Benz has put the fourth generation version of the C-Class on a steel-aluminium diet, which has resulted in the car shedding over 100 kilograms of bulk. A lighter C-Class sedan means a more fuel efficient car that is also quicker off the blocks. Staying true to tradition, the styling of the W205 C-Class mimics that of the S-Class, replete with the coupe-like roof line. The interiors of the C-Class also get a complete once over with larger exterior dimensions allowing for more capacious innards. A new COMAND infotainment interface and a bevy of new safety aids are the other changes on the W205 C-Class.
C63 AMG variant of the C-Class will feature a twin turbo petrol V8 engine displacing 4 liters. The W205 C63 AMG will sit right at the top of the C-Class sedan line up in India, with a price tag in excess of 1 crore rupees.
