The Ssangyong-Mahindra Rexton SUV was recently caught testing indicating that its launch could be soon. The Rexton was being expected around the second half of this year and may see a launch around October-November.
The Rexton looks a lot more handsome in flesh than it does in photos. It is a well proportioned SUV with large wheels and a wide front chrome grille. The boot door though is a bit bland and old school with its simple looking tail lamps. On the inside the Rexton will feel plush with ample use of beige with impressive fit and finish.
It is expected to be powered by a 2.7-litre turbocharged common-rail diesel engine churning out 182 bhp of power and 402 Nm of torque. We expect the Rexton to come in both 5 speed manual and five speed automatic variants, although there has been no confirmation on this.
In terms of technology the Rexton will sport a catalyzed diesel particulate filter and VGT (Variable Geometric Turbine) turbo charger that will curb its carbon emission. Also read: Upcoming cars from Mahindra
Other features the Rexton will likely sport include a tire pressure monitoring system, enhanced parking brake technology, a forward collision warning and avoidance system. It will also get a four-wheel (4WD) drive system, while all round disc brakes will be a standard feature.
Mahindra is setting up a plant to assemble the Rexton at Chakan, near Pune. Local assembly will help Mahindra to price the Rexton competitively at around Rs.18 lakh to Rs. 20 lakh. The company aims to sell 500 – 600 units of Rexton per month.
