My Wagon R has clocked around 1,00,000 kms. It makes sufficient amount of noise while driving, has some dents and needs some more repairs. My question is: ‘Is it worth spending money on getting the car completely serviced or should it be replaced witha new car?’ Also what is the life of the engine of a Wagon R?

My 2002 LXi Wagon R has presently clocked 1.36 lakh Km. No major issues with it. But yes, plastic panel noise has crept in. For this there are easy fixes. Remove all door pads, insert padding like Dynamat (a cheaper fix is those yoga mats that you get) and refix the door pads. Use washers on the dashboard fastners. And pad the floor. Get a complete denting and painting touch up. All bodywork will cost you about Rs. 15,000 - Rs. 20,000. As for the engine, check the following: Timing belt, replace it. AC belt, replace it. Clean injectors. Change spark plugs. Check engine mounts. Check drive shafts. Check suspension strut mounts (the rubber tends to harden and deplete). All engine work shouldn't cost you more than Rs. 10,000 (if your clutch is fine, else add another Rs. 5000 for clutch replacement). Wagon R engines (especially the older 4-cylinder 1.1 litre) are hardy units and can go 2 lakh km without any major issues as long as regular preventive maintenance (oil changes, filter changes) is done.
thanks a lot for the info @roshun
My Dec 2000 WagonR Lxi had an overhaul last Diwali with the odometer reading 225000. It cost 15k. I had the car converted to CNG sometime in summer 2009 with the clock reading around 130000. The engine is bulletproof provided you are regular with your oil changes. It still hits 140 on petrol. The noise could be gearbox whine(my car has a rather bad case of it). The only way to get rid of it is to replace the entire gearbox, which is rather costly. Second hand gearboxes from Mayapuri cost around 15k but their reliability is always suspect. Roshun has more or less listed all the points. Just add a thorough throttle body cleaning and replacing the jumping rod bushes to the list. I know all this sounds a lot but it will not be costly and you will be happy with the results.A complete dent-paint job in Faridabad costs around 12k. My car's dash is rattling too. I like the Dynamat idea. I'l try it myself. Dont let go of your car. They dont make such utilitarian and practical machines anymore
You can do your car a favor by having the radiator flushed and by filling up on high octane petrol once every few months.
