Dear Roshun Povaiah, with due respect to ur advice/comment “If you are going to be driving only 400 km a month, a petrol vehicle would do just fine”. What should be the minimum mileage as per your recommendation to buy a diesel car. No doubt I will be waiting for ecosport but then what should be my choice, as I will be traveling to Kolhapur every three months which will be 1300 km to & fro dist. And between this around 100 km per month. Should I still? With respect to economy for the month (average) petrol is coming higher than diesel. It would be around 600+ Rs. for petrol. How do you calculate all this like difference in car price of petrol and diesel. And then fuel differance charges etc. Can you explain the calculations and also why petrol inspite 400 KM/month. Thank you

Mr.Ashwin the break even period for diesel cars depends on your use age, usual break even period for a diesel car running approx 1000 kms every month is 3-5 years as there would be a difference of 1-1.5 lks between diesel and corresponding petrol variant.
In your case it looks like the break even period would exceed 5 years as your use age is less than 1000 kms per month.
Nothing less than 1000km a month justifies diesel as per todays's scenario. And with the gap between petrol and diesel prices set no narrow, the break even running is only going to increase. You should stick to petrol.

In the present pricing conditions of most cars - there is a Rs. 1 lakh to Rs. 1.5 lakh price difference between a petrol and diesel car. And there is a significant difference in fuel prices. So if you drive a larger number of km, you will make up that price difference (by means of savings on fuel) quickly enough, and then the rest is savings for you. But if you don't drive much, then you're not likely to spend Rs. 1 lakh or Rs. 1.5 lakh worth of fuel soon enough. As Shreyans says - 1000 to 1500 km a month is what is the ideal scene now, but with diesel prices rising, it may even go over 2000 km a month. See this: http://www.cartoq.com/will-diesel-cars-still-make-sense-after-diesel-price-rises-analysis/ Also, in the case of the EcoSport, there may not be much of a price difference between the petrol 1.0 EcoBoost and diesel 1.5 litre model.
Thank you ALL for the advice. One last question. My budget, as I told is 7 - 7.5 L Now If at all I go for Quanto or ecosport ( which should be between my budget) should I go for. I am not at all interested in SYNC or any Hi Tech technology in cars but ONLY INTERESTED in SPACE & ECONOMY ( every thing from price of the car to monthly fuel consumption & maintenance) leaving aside Audio system, A/C, Fog Lamps & power window. In that case which one should I look at ? Keeping in mind, both the SUV at ALMOST the same price (+ - 20000/-). I will be using this SUV ONLY on highways as clarified earlier. THANKING YOU ALL FOR THE TIME GIVEN TO ME AND THAT SUPERB PIECE OF ADVICE. I WILL SURELY GO WITH YOUR ADVICE. Hope ecosport land by mid fed 2013, as I have made my dead line by March end 2013. THANK YOU.
You should wai for the Ecosport. A point often missed about the Qanto is the maintenance. Quite a few Xylo parts have been redesigned and modularized during the shrink-to-fit exercise, especially in the front suspension. In case anything fails, you cant replace just the affected part. You have to replave the entire module. Which really adds up to the cost. And then, the less said about the professionalism and honesty of Mahindra service, the better.
Thanks a million to ALL. Its decided ecosport petrol version is finalized . Now only anxiety is pricing HOPE WILL come in my budget and that too by mid feb 2013 and in hand by march mid 2013. Thank you all once again.
