I am planning to buy a VW Vento. Is this the best choice in its class? My criteria are peppy engine and pick-up, top class ride quality for driver and passengers, and vehicle longevity. I’ve considered themaruti Suzuki SX-4, Nissan Sunny, Hyundai Verna, Skoda Rapid and Mitsubishi Cedia.

Rapid is the same car from technical aspects but it is cheaper than Vento. I think there should not be any problem whatsoever if you go for Rapid.
Thanks a ton Dave. I agree on the commercials.. I've even read that the Rapid's suspension is better tuned for our roads, esp. the pitching motion that occurs on undulating roads. However, the uniformly negative reports on Skoda service is a downer. It was this consideration that tilted the scales for the Vento for me.
rapid is better and comes at a less price tag than the vento..Go for Skoda Rapid....its a good allround sedan!!!
I could see Cedia on your list are you looking for Petrol...why not look at Linea TJET then figures comparable to Jetta TSi (check) also look at everyone's favorite Honda City
OK! Thanks So much Rox, Rohit. On the rapid - does anyone have a view of how Skoda's service quality stands today. The net abounds with horror stories.. and I hear similar stuff from owners and others .. "slow service, costly parts".. About the City - well I did have a thought that it IS everyone's favorite, maybe I should be different :). But point taken, will check it out too.
yes..Skoda has high maintenance and A.S.S is not so good as VW....but u can try diff as Skoda Rapid is a good choice and take a check at Honda City too..u will love it...
Service and support are delaer specific. But with Skoda, things happen to be bad almost universally. VW ain't much better either. As you are willling to consider petrol cars, you best option is the Linea TJet, then the City.
I guess Shreyans and I have a common opinion...TJet or the City....let me know if you finalise on TJET can get you good discount. mailrohitanand@gmail.com
The Linea T-Jet is not being made as of now. Fiat stopped production of it last year and is only selling the regular Linea diesel and petrol. Among these two, the Linea 1.3 Emotion diesel would be my choice. It's not peppy, but it is one with a really sorted ride quality, good suspension, good interiors and features. The City is kind of a default choice among petrol sedans, as it meets your criteria - peppy, good ride quality, and Honda's are known to last really long without much trouble. Another car that meets your needs (esp to be different) is the Ford Fiesta. It drives well, good handling, but its only drawback is the rear seat - whose center armrest is a bother. If you can wait for a couple of months, you could also check out the Ford EcoSport - lots of shared parts with the Fiesta, but promises to be a good compact SUV - better than a sedan, especially when you encounter those mammoth sized speed breakers in the city.
Hey guys.. my apologies for the radio silence. Kinda got snowed under work and didn't get round to checking mail. First - need to clarify something - I have rather curious reasons for staying with a diesel model - I need a car that transmits some amount of engine noise and vibration - the missus suffers from motion sickness which gets real bad in a vehicle that glides along in near total silence, which these petrol cars do.. I guess I'll never buy a Rolls :-). In all, I guess I'll stick with my Vento choice. Thanks ever so much for the ready sharing of so much automobile wisdom.
