I am physically handicapped (quadriplegic). I’m planning to buy an AT sedan, I took a test drive of the Hyundai Verna and Honda city but didn’t like either. Would you advice me as to which AT car has smooth shifting gears. I liked the Rapid Elegance AT and Ford Fiesta AT and how is Renault Scala AT? Should I consider this? Also, what is meant by rubber band effect in Scala AT? Between the Rapid , Fiesta and Scala which is best? My budget is 12 lakh and maximum usage will be 300km/month and may be an yearly long trip to hilly areas. Should I wait for the EcoSport; is it available in AT?

Hi Prasad, you mean when you put the car into D or S or N, you have to use too much force? Some amount of force is always required to move the lever... it may be low for some cars and high for others. To get this right, you need to test out multiple cars and see, there is no option. Only you can say if the force is right or not. About Scala AT - Scala AT is a CVT, so it has a gearbox similar to the earlier automatic scooters like Kinetic Honda. Remember when you accelerate on Kinetic Hondas, the sound of the engine would increase first and then the scooter would pick up speed? That is the rubberband effect. The Scala AT's CVT transmission is a good quality CVT. I personally don't think this is a problem except for performance oriented drivers. In driving yu wont face any issue. Ecosport would probably come in AT but no one is sure yet.
