Different cars have different BHP and weight figures. So power to weight ratio is a way to compare them. Look at the car’s power output (bhp figure). Look at the cars’s kerb weight (unladen weight). Divide the power output by the kerb weight. Multiply the figure by 1000 to get the bhp-per-ton figure. Now you get the power to weight ratio, as BHP per tonne. Do the same for the other car. The car with more BHP per tonne can, in theory, be faster than the other car.
