Depending on the utility the answer is changed , though duster is good at all the aspects except seating and when coming to the performance it has 30 bhp! difference with xuv500 (140bhp any variant) and that too in the highest diesel variant of duster(110 bhp and 5 seating). And both have equal VFM .if that doesn't matter for u as duster is the best . if it matters xuv500 is the best .
If you don't mind the price inching closer to 15 lacs, the XUV500 is the better choice, if it's more in the 10lac range, then it'll be the duster- pending the arrival of the ecosport ofcourse :) The Duster has more of a simplistic styling with a nothing-wrong-but-nothing-outstanding kind of an attitude; whereas the XUV is more aggressively styled with a host of features.
I think the more pertinent question would be Duster or Ecosport.
5 people, Duster. Higher price and 7 people, XUV500. Duster is an internationally proven vehicle, so you are likely to get a very reliable mini SUV for a price lower than 10 lakhs. But if you want more power and space, then its XUV500.
The Duster will be ideal as a small SUV which will seat 4 and occasionally five people. The XUV 500 is a different ball game all together with its capacity to carry more people and the tons of features it offers. The Duster will likely have better build quality and will feel more classy.
