Say hello to the next-gen Hyundai Verna sedan

The Auto China Motor Show is on and Hyundai has just revealed a concept version of the upcoming 2017, next-gen Verna C-Segment sedan. This car is expected to arrive into India next year, considering that the Verna Fluidic was launched way back in 2011. The next-gen Verna looks sharper than the current model, while managing to retain typical Hyundai styling flourishes. Look closely, and you’ll notice that the new Verna looks like a grown up i20 Elite.

This is a good thing considering that the i20 Elite is a lovely looker. The hexagonal grille is the boldest styling element on the car’s front while the headlamps wrap around the front bumper and flanks. From here on, the design is similar to the outgoing Verna, with a coupe-like, plunging window line. At the rear, Hyundai’s LEDs make an appearance, and give the car a modern, futuristic look. Even at the rear, the design is more evolution and revolution.

Hyundai fans will not be displeased considering that the Verna Fluidic was a good looking sedan to start off with. The designers at Hyundai seem to have built upon the current Verna’s strengths. Moving on, the new car’s expected to pack in more equipment as usual, more so considering that it’s a Hyundai we’re talking about. Expect segment leading features to be on offer.

Under the hood, the 1.4 liter and 1.6 liter turbo diesel engines are likely to be carried over. An interesting addition could be the 7 speed twin clutch automatic gearbox, which Hyundai will first introduce to India in the upcoming all-new Elantra. The new Verna is also expected to get this gearbox. Talking petrols, Hyundai could offer a turbo petrol motor on the new Verna considering that turbo petrols are fast becoming standard on many new sedans. The Verna, being a world car, just can’t afford to be left behind.

Hyundai will launch this car in its home market of South Korea later this year. Expect it to be land on Indian shores early next year. A high amount of localization is a given considering that this car will go against the Honda City and Maruti Suzuki Ciaz. A competitive price tag is another eagerly anticipated detail, and one that can make or mar the car’s future in India. Watch this space.
