Skoda will launch their Mission L based sedan in India on October 7. CarToq had earlier said that the new sedan will likely be called the Lauretta. Skoda has confirmed that their C-segment sedan will resemble the Mission L Concept that was unveiled at the Frankfurt Auto Show.
CarToq spoke to a Skoda dealer in Delhi, who confirmed that the car will likely be launched on October 7. He also mentioned that the car may be named the Rapid as was being speculated earlier, but it seems that Skoda is yet to finalize the name of the car.
The car is expected to be priced competitively. The upcoming Skoda sedan will compete with the likes of the Honda City, Volkswagen Vento and the likes. We can expect it to be priced at roughly Rs. 6.5-7.5 lakh for the base variant and prices may go up to Rs. 11-12 lakh for the top end variant.
The Volkswagen Vento petrol starts at Rs. 6.99 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi) and Skoda cars are usually priced slightly lower than their Volkswagen cousins.
Engine and Mileage
The Lauretta will be sold in both diesel and petrol variants. The engines will likely be the same 1.6-litre petrol and diesel motors found in the Vento. This petrol engine will belt out around 104 bhp of power and 153 Nm of torque, while the diesel motor will put out 104 bhp of power and 250 Nm of torque. Read more about the Lauretta here.
The petrol variant will likely come with a 5-speed manual transmission and an optional 6-speed automatic transmission. The diesel variant will come only in a 5-speed manual transmission option. The Vento petrol has an ARAI certified mileage figure of 15.04 kmpl while the Vento diesel returns 20.54 kmpl. We can expect similar figures from Skoda’s C-segment sedan.
There is no official information about what features the upcoming sedan will sport but we can expect features like rear AC vents, reverse parking sensors and airbags in the top-trim variants. Also read: Skoda Lauretta to resemble Mission L concept
