Tata Indica eV2 prices revealed

Tata Motors has launched the BS-IV version of the popular Tata Indica V2, dubbed the Indica eV2 in Mumbai today.

The company claims a mileage of 25 km/litre (as per ARAI) for the CR4 diesel engine variant of Indica eV2 – if true, that would make this the most fuel efficient car in India.

The Tata Indica eV2 is priced ranging from Rs. 3.95 lakhs to Rs. 4.77 lakhs, ex-showroom Delhi for the CR4 diesel engine and in the range of Rs. 2.95 lakhs and Rs. 3.58 lakhs, ex-showroom Delhi, for the MPFI petrol. The diesel version will be available in 4 trims: L, LE, LS and LX, while the petrol version will be available in 4 trim levels: GL, GLE, GLS and GLX. The Indica eV2 comes with a warranty of 24 months or 75000 km whichever is earlier.

A couple of days back, we had reported the engine specifications, features and trim levels of Indica eV2 based on the Indica eV2 brochure leaked in the internet.

Tata Indica eV2 engine and specifications

The Tata Indica eV2 is powered by 1,396 cc, common-rail Direct injection DICOR engine that produces 70 PS of maximum power at 4,000 rpm and a maximum torque of 140 Nm at 1,800-3,000 rpm. The petrol Indica eV2 is powered by the same 1.2-litre, 65.3 petrol engine that produces 65.3 bhp at 5,000 rpm and 99.8 Nm at 2,700 rpm. Also read: Most fuel efficient petrol small cars

Tata Motors claims that the new Indica eV2, as the result of using the CR4 diesel engine, is 32% more powerful, has 65% more torque and has improved in fuel efficiency by 46%.

How did Tata achieve 25 km/litre mileage in Indica eV2?

Tata Motors explains that the mileage of Indica eV2 is achieved by using three technologies together, namely the SMART EMS (Engine management System) chip, maximum charge combustion and drag reduction.

The Smart EMS chip optimizes the functionality of the engine component by setting the right valve timing, compression ratio, pressure volume ratio etc. Also read: Most fuel efficient automatic cars

Tata Motors says that the new engine block is designed to ensure effective intake and circulation of charge preventing friction between parts resulting in maximum combustion of charge. This increases fuel efficiency and power.

Tata Motors has redesigned the wheel arches and slight modification on the exterior such as lighter shell and lighter engine unit, making the car more aerodynamic and reducing the drag coefficient.

New Features in Tata Indica eV2

Tata Motors has introduced two new features in the Indica eV2 namely the Auto-Drive Assist and the Clutch-To-Start.

Auto-Drive Assist

A useful feature while climbing gradients, Auto-Drive Assist ensures that the engine does not stall even if the foot is completely taken off the clutch pedal, enabling the driver to easily shift his foot to the accelerator when driving on hilly roads or other inclined surfaces.

‘Clutch-to-start’

This feature ensures that the driver cannot crank the engine unless the clutch is fully engaged, thereby avoiding the risk of recrank when the engine is on.

Tata Motors has given a mild face-lift to the exterior of the Indica. The Indica eV2 has 14 inch alloy wheels (top-variant of diesel alone), new decals, redesigned tail lamp cluster and rear bumper.

The Indica eV2 is available in 4 colors: – Apple Green, Neo Orange, Arctic Silver and Mint White.

To make the old Indica shell appeal to private owners, Tata Motors have given better refreshed interiors in the Indica eV2. The two-tone, elegant shadow beige colors are eye-catchy. The top variant of eV2 gets a wooden finish centre console.

Power windows, Bluetooth enabled music system, USB port, keyless entry, 4-spoke collapsible steering column, 60:40 rear seating, front and rear fog lamps and tachometer, are the new features added on the Indica eV2 interior.

The Tata Indica has always been a sheer value for money car with comfortable space, large boot, fuel efficient diesel engines and good ride quality.

With new user-friendly features, BS-IV compliant diesel engine returning high mileage and at affordable price range, the Indica eV2 appears to be a promising car for the masses, if the buyer ignores the fact that Indica is largely a cab car.
